Football
Last Week: The Miami football team dropped a 34-27 decision on the road at Central Michigan. In the loss, Andrew Hendrix threw for 369 yards and two scores, while Miami racked up 471 yards of total offense versus the league’s top ranked defensive unit (Recap). Next Week: Miami returns to action next Tuesday (Nov. 25) as they close the regular season at home versus arch-rival Ohio.
Men's Basketball
Last Week: Senior guard Will Sullivan poured in 21 points, sinking a career-high six buckets from long range, as Miami claimed a 76-63 season-opening win against Southern Utah University on Sunday afternoon at Millett Hall. Sullivan led a quartet of RedHawks in double figures with junior guards Eric Washington, Willie Moore and Geovonie McKnight finishing with 17, 13 and 10 points, respectively. Washington also contributed eight assists and six rebounds. (Recap) This Week: Miami hosts Evansville at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19 and Liberty at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 22 in the second game of a women's and men's doubleheader. Wednesday's game is Military Appreciation Day and Miami also will be having a canned food drive. While all patrons are asked to bring non-perishable items to donate at the game, Miami will offer a $2 discount on tickets to the Evansville game with a minimum donation of two canned goods. Donated items will be provided to the Oxford Community Choice Pantry.
Hockey
Last Week: The No. 7 RedHawks faced a big conference test against preseason second-ranked and preseason favorite North Dakota. Sean Kuraly had a hand in every MU goal in Friday’s opener, netting two goals and an assist, including his nation-leading sixth game-winning goal of the season in a 3-2 victory (Recap). Eying a weekend sweep, Anthony Louis’ second goal of the season put the Red and White ahead early in the second period, but UND countered with four-unanswered goals to top the RedHawks 4-1 (Recap). This Week: Miami begins a four-game home stand on Friday when it hosts NCHC rival Western Michigan for a two-game set at Steve ‘Coach’ Cady Arena.
Men’s Cross Country:
Last Week: For the first time in six years, Miami will have representation at the NCAA Cross Country Championship. Junior Joe Stewart ran a phenomenal 10K at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional, finishing eighth with a time of 30:29 (Release). That finish earned Stewart an at-large bid to next weekend’s championship race in Terre Haute. The RedHawks finished 19th as a team with 541 points (Recap). This Week: Stewart will run in the NCAA Cross Country Championship on Saturday.
Women’s Cross Country
Last Week: Jess Hoover garnered all-region honors after placing 23rd in the Great Lakes Regional 6K with a time of 20:41, her second-fastest this season. The RedHawks placed 11th, totaling 342 points in the competition (Recap). This Week: The women’s cross country season has concluded.
Volleyball
Last Week: The RedHawks (19-9 overall, 12-4 MAC) split their final weekend on the road as they prepared for the upcoming MAC Tournament. Miami made it 10 wins in a row with a hard-fought, 3-2 (25-23, 24-26, 25-16, 25-27, 15-11), victory over Kent State on Friday. (Recap) The RedHawks ran into a hot hitting Ohio team and saw their win streak come to an end with a 0-3 (13-25, 14-25, 15-25) defeat on Saturday. (Recap) Earlier in the week, senior setter/right side hitter Meg Riley was honored as MAC East Division Offensive Player of the Week on Monday. (Release) On Wednesday, head coach Carolyn Condit announced the signing of Courtney Simons (McCordsville, Ind./Brebeuf Jesuit) to a National Letter of Intent (Release) This Week: The Miami RedHawks have earned the three seed in the MAC Tournament and will receive a bye to the quarterfinals. They will take on the winner of a first round match between sixth seed Eastern Michigan and seventh seed Kent State on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the Convocation Center in Athens, Ohio. Women’s Basketball
Last Week: Junior forward Jessica Rupright’s 18 points and nine rebounds, along with three others in double-figures, helped give Miami University’s women’s basketball team a 76-60 victory over the Cedarville Yellow Jackets in an exhibition at Millett Hall on Tuesday evening. (Recap) (Photo Gallery) On Wednesday, Coach Cleve Wright announced the signing of three student-athletes to National Letters of Intent. (Release) This Week: Miami opens the season on Tuesday when it hosts Cincinnati Christian at 7 p.m. The RedHawks will take on UIC on Saturday at 1 p.m. as part of a doubleheader that sees the men take on Liberty at 3:30 p.m.
Synchronized Skating
Last Week: Miami University's synchronized skating programs showcased their competitive programs for the 2014-15 season on Saturday afternoon at Steve "Coach" Cady Arena. (Photos) This Week: Miami is off until opening its competitive season at the Dr. Richard Porter Classic Dec. 6-7.
