Listed below is a recap of last week's results as well as a look ahead at this week's games. Enjoy!
Hockey
Last week: The RedHawks captured their fourth Central Collegiate Hockey Association regular-season title after splitting a two-game series with in-state rival Ohio State on Friday and Saturday at Steve Cady Arena. Miami fell to the Buckeyes, 3-0, on Friday, but responded with a dominating 4-2 victory on Saturday, which was Senior Night (FULL STORY). MU improved to 22-9-5 overall and 17-7-4-4 in league play. Click HERE for a photo gallery. Coming up: The RedHawks earned a first-round bye and home ice in the second round of the CCHA Tournament. Miami will host a team TBD in a best-of-three series, starting Friday, March 15 at Steve Cady Arena. Game two of the series will be played on Saturday, March 16 and game three (if necessary) is on Sunday, March 17. Friday's game will be at 7:35 p.m. while games two and three are at 7:05 p.m. Tickets for the second round of the CCHA Playoffs can be purchased HERE.
Synchronized Skating
Last week: The RedHawk collegiate team bested its nearest competitors by 8.15 points, as they cruised to their ninth-straight national championship on Saturday, tying a U.S. Figure Skating record for consecutive national titles (FULL STORY). Miami's senior team placed second at the U.S. National Championships also on Saturday, earning a berth to the ISU World Synchronized Skating Championships (FULL STORY). Additionally, the junior synchronized skating team completed an exciting day on Friday at the U.S. National Championships. For the second straight evening, the RedHawk junior team posted season-best marks and finished sixth among the 12-team field at the National Championships (FULL STORY). Coming up: The Miami senior team travels to Boston, Mass. for the ISU World Synchronized Skating Championships Friday, April 5 through Saturday, April 6.
Women's Swimming & Diving
Last week: For the 17th time in the 33-year history of the Mid-American Conference meet, the RedHawk women's swimming and diving team was crowned league champions on Saturday. The win marked Miami's first MAC team title since 2009 (FULL STORY). Click HERE for final results. Coming Up: The NCAA Zone C Diving Meet in West Lafayette, Ind. begins Thursday, March 14, while the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships start Thursday, March 21 in Indianapolis, Ind.
Men's Swimming & Diving
This week: Miami, which hosted the Ohio Senior Championships Friday through Sunday, travels to compete in the Mid-American Conference Championships Thursday, March 7 through Saturday, March 9 in Carbondale, Ill. Results for the Ohio Senior Championships were not made available as of Monday morning.
Men's Basketball
Last week: The RedHawks (8-19, 3-11 MAC) dropped games at Bowling Green, 52-44, on Wednesday (FULL STORY) and at home vs. Kent State, 78-58, on Saturday (FULL STORY). Miami's only senior Vince Legarza was honored prior to Saturday's game, which was Senior Day. Click HERE for a photo gallery. This week: The 'Hawks finish out the season on the road with a Tuesday tilt at MAC-leading Akron at 7 p.m. and the regular season finale at Ohio on Saturday at 4 p.m. Both games will be televised on STO.
Women's Basketball
Last week: The RedHawks (17-11, 9-6 MAC) split a pair of games against Kent State and Akron on Thursday and Sunday, respectively. Miami defeated the Golden Flashes, 73-39, at home (FULL STORY) but fell to the Zips, 71-65, on the road (FULL STORY). This week: MU completes the regular season on Wednesday, March 6 when they travel to Ohio for a 7 p.m. contest. After that, the 'Hawks host a first round MAC Tournament game against a team TBD on Saturday, March 9 at 2 p.m.
Baseball
Last week: The RedHawks (2-6) were swept in a three-game road series against Mercer on Friday and Saturday in Macon, Ga. Click HERE for final results. This week: Miami is slated to play its first midweek game of the season on Tuesday, March 5 when it travels to Xavier. However, the weather forecast is not favorable. Softball
This week: After a week off, the RedHawks (2-8) travel to compete in the Red & Black Tournament Friday, March 8 through Sunday, March 10 in Louisville, Ky. Miami kicks off the tournament by playing a double header against Austin Peay and Michigan at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., respectively. On Saturday, MU plays host Louisville at 2:30 p.m. and then completes the tournament by playing a Sunday double header against Austin Peay and Illinois State at 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., respectively. Tennis
Last week: The RedHawks dropped a pair of matches against No. 47 North Texas and No. 41 Georgia Tech on Saturday and Sunday, respectively, in Atlanta. Miami fell to the Mean Green, 4-3, and to the Yellow Jackets, 4-0 (FULL STORY). Coming Up: MU returns to action in two weeks when it spends its Spring Break in Florida. The RedHawks face Central Florida and South Florida during the trip.
Women's Track & Field
Last week: Select Miami runners competed at the Notre Dame Last Chance meet Friday and Saturday in South Bend, Ind., in an effort to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships. Results were not made available as of Monday morning. This week: The RedHawks are set to compete in the NCAA Indoor Championships Friday, March 8 through Saturday, March 9 in Fayetteville, Ark. The outdoor season begins March 15-16 at the Hurricane Invitational in Miami, Fla.
Men's Track & Field
Last week: With the meet up for grabs, Cincinnati narrowly beat out Miami in the final relay to clip the RedHawks, 70-61, in a dual meet Friday evening at The Capital Center on the campus of Capital University. The dual was the second and final indoor meet for Miami this season, as the RedHawks are allowed to compete in up to three indoor meets to prepare for outdoor competition, per NCAA rules (FULL STORY). Coming Up: The 'Hawks open outdoor season March 22-23 at the Vanderbilt Black and Gold Invitational in Nashville, Tenn.
