CLEVELAND, Ohio - Miami University kicker MASON KRYSINSKI has been selected to 2012 Academic All-Mid-American Conference Team, as voted by faculty athletic representatives at MAC institutions.
The Shelby Township, Mich. junior, a graduate of Eisenhower High School, has compiled a cumulative grade-point average of 3.95, majoring in biochemistry.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
"I have been very blessed to have professors who do an incredible job on making my learning experience very personal and far reaching," said Krysinski. "A couple of my professors in particular, Dr. Benjamin Gung (organic chemistry) and Dr. Ann Hagerman (biochemistry), have really spent the time and the effort to challenge me to take my experience to another level. Dr. Gung has afforded me with the opportunity to study organic synthesis chemistry in his research lab and has offered me the ability to transform my classroom experiences into a real world encounter. In another example, I've spent a significant amount of time with Dr. Hagerman during her office hours where I was always encouraged to question classroom concepts on a deeper level. As my academic advisor, she has also taken a personal interest in ensuring that I am best prepared to enter medical school and that I have explored all possible career paths. I figure that when you have professors willing to spend that much effort with a student, it is hard not to do well."
The number of honorees on the Academic All-MAC team is equivalent to the number of first-team selections or 33% of the number of nominees, whichever is greater. The remaining student-athletes have been recognized as Academic Honorable Mention selections. Among Miami's student-athletes chosen Honorable Mention are Brad Bednar (3.35 GPA, Mentor, OH), Collin Boucher (3.25 GPA, Kettering, OH), Chrishawn Dupuy (3.31 GPA, New Orleans, LA), Luke Swift (3.20 GPA, Greenwood, IN), Chris Wade (3.25 GPA, Slidell, LA), Wes Williams (3.23 GPA, Houston, TX), Joseph Williams (3.33 GPA, Houston, TX) and David Zulandt (3.37 GPA, Chardon, OH).
