Spring Trip Continues in Florida

Fresh off a weekend series at 16th-ranked Ole Miss, Miami continues its spring break trip with five games in Florida. Four of the contests are part of the Snowbird Classic in Port Charlotte, while the RedHawks will face the other Miami on Wednesday night in Coral Gables.
Miami (4-5) won the opener at Ole Miss, 9-8, before dropping games Saturday (11-3) and Sunday (2-1). The finale went down to the wire, as the RedHawks had runners on second and third with one out, but couldn't tie things up,
The RedHawks are batting .270 with two home runs and 38 RBIs through nine games. They have a .329 on-base percentage, while slugging .323.
On the mound, RedHawk pitchers hold a 6.75 ERA, but have struck out 54 batters, while walking only 24.
Individually, Matt Honchel took over the team lead this weekend, increasing his average .455 average with a six RBIs. Kevin Bower is second at , 393 with one home run and six RBIs.
The usual weekend rotation of Thoreson, Fiala and Marquardt will throw the final three games of the trip. On Tuesday, sophomore Seth Varner gets his first start of the season after two relieft appearances. The next day, sophomore Charles Zubrod will earn his first career start. He pitched in one game in 2011 and has made three appearances this season.
