Tatman, Roberts Victorious at BSU Quad

OXFORD, Ohio - Two members of the Miami University women's track and field team won events Friday at the Ball State Quadrangular, hosted by Ball State at its Field Sports Building, with the meet serving as a final dress rehearsal before the Mid-American Conference Championships next weekend. The RedHawks did rest several athletes as well however, in preparation for the league meet.
Sophomore Kori Tatman (Amanda, Ohio) won the pole vault with a personal-best vault of 12-9/3.89m, which ranks her second in school history while the vault is the 10th-best clearance all-time at Miami, all behind Sarah Landau ('07). She improved on her personal best by over nine inches, also winning the event at last year's meet. Senior Sarah Kinnaman (Carmel, Ind.) was the runner-up with an indoor personal-best mark of 12-2.75/3.73m, which ranks her fourth in program history, while freshman Taylor Brown (Hilliard, Ohio) was fourth with a personal-best clearance of 10-9/3.28m.
Miami's other first-place finish was in the shot put where senior Alexandra Roberts (Hilliard, Ohio) was victorious with a heave of 47-10/14.58m. Sophomore Tori Paterra (Elizabeth, Pa.) took fourth with a personal-best throw of 44-0.5/13.42m while freshman Adaora Anunike (Galena, Ohio) placed sixth with a distance of 42-4.75/12.92m, also a personal best. Anunike took third in the weight throw as well with a personal-best toss of 50-10.75/15.51m, which ranks her ninth in school history.
In the long jump, freshman Jasmine Watts (Carmel, Ind.) claimed fourth with a personal-best leap of 17-9.5/5.42m while senior Diona Graves (Fenton, Mo.) was fifth with the same mark.
On the track, a trio of RedHawks made the 60m hurdles finals led by junior Layne Baggett (Pittsburgh, Pa.), who placed third in 8.63, matching her season-best time, after also qualifying third. Sophomore Erica Mudd (Cincinnati, Ohio) finished sixth in 9.04 ticks, improving one spot from prelims, while redshirt sophomore Ashley Zaper (Whitehouse, Ohio) was eighth in 9.22.
A pair of RedHawks qualified for the 60m dash finals as Graves took fourth in 7.73 seconds while senior Lindsay Forconi (Vermillion, Ohio) took seventh in 8.03 ticks. In the 400m dash, sophomore Leah Coleman (Westerville, Ohio) took ninth in an indoor personal-best 1:00.81 while she also led Miami in the 200m dash, taking 12th in 27.13, also an indoor PR.
In distance running, sophomore Kate Carter (Ann Arbor, Mich.) was fifth in the 3000m run in 10:42.72, running it for the first time in her career, while senior Maggie Bingham (Carmel, Ind.) was sixth in the mile run in 5:17.16.
As a team Miami finished in fourth with 82 points while sitting some athletes and competing others in their non-traditional events. Western Michigan won with 167 points while Northern Illinois took second (109) and the host Cardinals were third (106).
The RedHawks return to Akron, Ohio for the MAC Championships Feb. 24-25 at the University of Akron's Stile Field House, after competing there just last week. Miami is looking to improve upon last year's third-place finish at the league meet.
