BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - - Despite not competing for over a month, the Miami University women's track and field team had a strong showing at the BGSU Team Challenge Saturday at Bowling Green's Perry Field House, taking second place behind a pair of event wins and six runner-up finishes.
Miami finished with 122 points while Western Michigan won the seven-team meet with 151.66 points. The RedHawks were second of the five Mid-American Conference teams at the meet, as the host Falcons took third with 70.33 points, Toledo (62) was fourth and Ball State (55) fifth. Wright State and IPFW rounded out the team scoring in sixth and seventh, respectively.
"We didn't put everyone in their main events but even still, in all areas the ladies competed really well," head coach Kelly Phillips said.
A pair of RedHawks shared the pole vault title as seniors Hannah Tabler (Wapakoneta, Ohio) and Sarah Kinnaman (Carmel, Ind.) each cleared 3.65m/11-11.75, marking personal bests for both as they are now tied for fourth in school history with sophomore Kori Tatman (Amanda, Ohio), who placed fourth Saturday by also topping 11-11.75 but in more attempts. She fired a season-best heave of 15.09m/49-6.25 to earn 10 points while winning by over four feet. Her mark was the second-best throw in indoor school history behind only her school-record heave from last year.
