Wooten Tabbed RWC Don Loss Volunteer of Year

OXFORD, Ohio-Lyman "Tootie" Wooten has been named the Miami University Red & White Club (RWC) Don Loss Volunteer of the Year. He was honored before volleyball's win over Florida Gulf Coast on Friday, Sept. 9.
Born in Trenton, Ohio on April 14, 1938, Tootie was a two-sport athlete at Talawanda High School in Oxford, quarterbacking the Braves' football team and playing basketball. The retired truck driver for Jergesen Construction initially joined Don "Donzer" Miller's equipment crew as a volunteer in 1996 and has stayed on to serve with Darrell Hallberg's staff for the past four years.
"Over the past few years we have become the best of friends," said Hallberg. "We have worked together, traveled together, played practical jokes together, cried together and celebrated together. Whether he is working at football practice, attending softball games, washing laundry for the Yager sports or sitting in his usual seats in Millett Hall for basketball season, he truly cares for our student-athletes and our athletic program. There is no better man with no bigger heart than Tootie."
Tootie, a regular attendee at all Miami sporting events, is also a contributor to the Red & White Club. He is known for his enthusiasm, positive attitude, selflessness and care for Miami and Miami student-athletes. The Don Loss Award is presented annually to a member of the Miami family in recognition of his/her dedicated service.
The Don Loss Award is presented to a member of the Miami University Red & White Club in recognition of his/her dedicated service. This award is given annually in memory of Don Loss, a 1951 graduate of Miami University and former Red & White Club Board member, whose loving support for Miami Athletics helped lay the groundwork for the Red & White Club today.
