OXFORD, Ohio - With Move-in Day now behind them and the first day of classes just ahead on Monday (Aug. 22), RedHawk athletics has lots of events and activities planned for the 16,000+ Miami University students who are now on campus.
On Friday (Aug. 19) at 7 p.m. at Miami's baseball stadium, McKee Field, RedHawk Traditions kicks off their 2011-12 season with the men's basketball team.
The popular MU Block Party will be the feature event this Saturday (Aug. 20) at 5 p.m. for the Class of 2015. This annual event is held at Yager Stadium and will include a giant meet and greet, interactive games, dinner and a hypnotist. Miami's football team will be in attendance to mingle with the new freshmen.
On Sunday (Aug. 21) at 1 p.m., Miami's soccer team hosts Morehead State at the soccer field, just east of Yager Stadium. It's free admission for all fans.
Next Thursday evening (Aug. 25) at 6 p.m. is the City of Oxford's annual Pig Roast at the Uptown Park. Coach Don Treadwell and his RedHawk football squad will be attending, handing out the team's 2011 posters. Delicious food will be available for purchase.
"These welcome events combine an opportunity for athletics to connect with the student body while simultaneously developing our student-athletes' interpersonal skills," said Director of Marketing, Anthony J. Azama.
Miami students also are encouraged to join Red Alert, a support group for athletics that helps to create home-site advantages for the RedHawk teams. Upon joining for $20, each member receives an individually coded HawkCard, sponsor coupons, and a Red Alert T-shirt. The HawkCard can be scanned in at Miami varsity athletic events (volleyball, soccer, football, ice hockey, men's and women's basketball, baseball and softball) to build each member's loyalty score. These points lead to exclusive events, such as viewing parties, road trips and tailgating, plus prizes at local restaurants and bookstores.
