Synchronized Skating Holds Postseason Banquet

OXFORD, Ohio-Miami University's synchronized skating teams gathered with friends and family Saturday evening at the Shriver Center to celebrate the 2010-11 season at the annual postseason banquet.
Thirteen RedHawk skaters received awards at the banquet. Each team had a skater named outstanding skater, most improved skater and also awarded a spirit award. The senior and collegiate teams also had awardees for rookie of the year and outstanding senior.
Senior Lauren Tseng (Farmington Hills, Mich./Walled Lake Western) was honored as the senior team's Outstanding Skater, while senior Marisa Hutchinson (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron) was named the senior team's Senior of the Year. Both Tseng and Hutchinson are four-year members of the RedHawk senior team.
For the second straight year sophomore Bianca Pomponio (Livonia, Mich./Mercy) earned the senior team's Most Improved Skater Award. A winner of the Spirit Award for both the junior and collegiate teams last season, junior Martha Buckley (Essex, Mass./Manchester Essex Regional) earned the Spirit Award for the senior team this year. Freshman Katelyn Hilgers (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) earned the senior team's Rookie of the Year honor. Miami's senior team earned a silver medal at the U.S. National Championships and finished 10th at the ISU World Championships.
Junior Kerrie Wilcox (San Diego, Calif./San Diego Jewish Academy), a two-year member of the collegiate team, captured the Outstanding Skater Award for the collegiate team. Senior Sarah Brown (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville), who is a three-year member of the collegiate team, was named the collegiate team's Senior of the Year.
After earning junior team Most Improved Skater distinction last season, junior Jaime Mariage (Bay Village, Ohio/Bay) was tabbed the collegiate team's Most Improved Skater this season. Junior Lauren McHenry (Raleigh, N.C./Sanderson) earned the collegiate team's Spirit Award, while freshman Ashleigh Faucette (Chapel Hill, N.C./Cedar Ridge), who also competed on the junior team, was tabbed the collegiate team's Rookie of the Year. The collegiate team won the program's 13th national title and increased its stretch of national titles to seven straight, the most consecutive national titles by any team at any level of synchronized skating.
For the junior team, sophomore Julianne Parece (North Reading, Mass./North Reading), who also skated on the collegiate team, was named Outstanding Skater, while freshman Colleen Clancy (Galesburg, Mich./Gull Lake) was tabbed Most Improved Skater and freshman Katherine Rice (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) earned the Spirit Award.
Four skaters also made remarks during the awards portion of the program. Parece and sophomore Kyleigh Gaff (Lynnfield, Mass./Lynnfield) spoke on behalf of the junior team, Brown spoke on behalf of the collegiate team and senior Jana Fronda (Oak Brook, Ill./York Community) spoke on behalf of the senior team.
