DELRAY BEACH, Fla. - The men's golf team had a strong finish in the final round of the FAU Spring Break Classic on Sunday. The RedHawks shot a final round 285 to finish the event in fourth place at five over par. Ohio State won the event at 12-under par.
Freshman Mark MacDonald concluded his first career tournament with a two under par 70, the lowest round by a RedHawk on Sunday. Overall he finished at two over par and in a tie for 19th place.
Senior Nathan Sutherland struggled a bit on Sunday, shooting a five over par 77. He was still the top finisher for Miami, placing in a tie for 11th at even par.
Other finishers for the RedHawks included Austin Kelly, who tied with MacDonald for 19th at two over par. Michael Drobnick shot a 71 on Sunday to finish the event in a tie for 24th place at four over par. Ben Peacock was tied for 48th at nine over par.
"It was a great week for us, a lot of positives," said head coach Casey Lubahn. "There are still a few things that we need to work on though as we continue to get better. Nathan struggled a little bit today, but was a great leader for us this week. Everyone contributed this week and Mark MacDonald played absolutely magnificently today."
Miami has two more tournaments before it hosts the MAC Championship Apr. 29-May 1 at TPC River's Bend in Mainesville, Ohio. The RedHawks are next in action Apr. 16-17 when they travel to Iowa City, Iowa for the Hawkeye Invitational.
