Miami Takes Second at Ball State Quad

MUNCIE, Ind. - Six RedHawks won event titles, including four of six field events, to lead the Miami University women's track and field team to a runner-up finish Friday evening at the Ball State Quadrangular held at BSU's Field Sports Building. The meet served as a tune-up for next weekend's Mid-American Conference Championships.
The RedHawks totaled 144.5 points while Western Michigan won the four-team meet with 158.5 points. The host Cardinals were third with 122 points and Northern Illinois finished with 178 points.
Senior Hope Alexander (Wilmington, Del.) captured the triple jump with a leap of 38-0.25/11.59m while junior Krista Stillson (Naperville, Ill.) placed third in an indoor personal-best 36-8.50/11.19m.
Junior Samantha Gable (Greenfield, Ind.) claimed the weight throw with a season-best toss of 53-11/16.43m as Miami's only entry in the event. Sophomore Alexandra Roberts (Hilliard, Ohio) was also victorious, claiming the shot put with a heave of 46-8.75/14.24m. Freshman Tori Paterra (Elizabeth, Pa.) took fourth with a personal-best put of 41-11.25/12.78m.
Miami swept the top three spots in the pole vault led by freshman Kori Tatman (Amanda, Ohio), who cleared 11-3/3.43m. Junior Hannah Tabler (Wapakoneta, Ohio) was second with a season-best height of 10-7/3.23 while classmate Adrienne Cristofoli (Grove City, Ind.) topped 9-11.25/3.03m.
The RedHawks took the top two spots in the mile run as junior Rachel Patterson (Rochester, Mich.) finished first in 4:58.79, despite running the event for the first time this year, while fellow junior Maggie Bingham (Carmel, Ind.) was the runner-up in a personal-best 5:04.19.
Junior Diona Graves (Fenton, Mo.) won the 60m dash in 7.67 seconds after also qualifying for the finals as the top seed. In the 60m hurdles, sophomore Layne Baggett (Pittsburgh, Pa.) placed second in a season-best 8.71 ticks while freshman Xerina Hughey (Galloway, Ohio) was fourth in 8.98 seconds.
In the 800m run, senior Kelley Miller (Dublin, Ohio) took second in a season-best 2:13.28, as WMU's Samantha Tomerlin edged her out by nine-hundredths of a second. Freshman Erin Riley (Avon Lake, Ohio) placed fourth in 2:19.31.
Miami heads to the MAC Championships in Bowling Green, Ohio next weekend, Feb. 25-26, at BGSU's Perry Field House.
