Dec. 24, 2011
As the 2011 calendar comes to a close, MURedHawks.com wants to take this opportunity to reminisce on some of the recent highlights.
The Athletic Communications staff recently sat down to compile a Top 10 listing of the biggest news stories for Miami Athletics. It was no easy decision, but we think we hit the mark on a great year.
Feel free to post your comments to @miamiredhawks on twitter and we will start sharing them.
Each day between Dec. 22 and Dec. 31, a different highlight of 2011 will be presented. Today, we continue the countdown with the No. 8 story on our list.
Baseball Makes Run to MAC Tournament Final
After finishing its best regular-season in recent years, posting 18 wins in Mid-American Conference play, the Miami Baseball team continued its success at the league tournament.
The third-seeded RedHawks cruised through bracket play undefeated, topping Toledo (RECAP), Western Michigan (RECAP) and Central Michigan (RECAP) to earn a spot in the final.
In the championship matchup, Miami squared off against top-seeded and 25th-ranked Kent State in a one-game showdown, even though the Golden Flashes suffered a loss in bracket play. The RedHawks ran into trouble early on, allowing the first six batters to reach base, in an 11-0 defeat. (RECAP) (PHOTO GALLERY)
Even in defeat, the season wasn't soured. Miami finished with a 35-25 record, the most wins since taking 45 in 2005.
