HUNTINGTON, W.V. - The Miami University women's basketball team looks to earn its first win when it travels to Marshall Wednesday for a 7 p.m. game. Bill Douglas has the call and it can be heard live and free on the Miami Sports Network Internet Channel.
HOW TO LISTEN THIS SEASON: In addition to several games that will be heard live on WMOH, all women's basketball games will be broadcast over the internet in some fashion. All home games will air with a live video and audio stream on the Miami All-Access channel for those who have a subscription. All road games will air audio only and free of charge on the Miami Sports Network Internet Channel.
BLOCK PARTY: Three members of this season's roster are already on Miami's top-15 all-time block list. Senior Rachael Hencke leads the way with 81 blocks, ranking seventh all-time. After recording one block on Friday against Temple, junior Kirsten Olowinski is right behind her in eighth at 79. Senior Lillian Pitts is tied for 15th with 56 total blocks.
CLINIC THIS WEEKEND: At the conclusion of Miami's home opener on Saturday against Massachusetts, the women's basketball team will host a free clinic. The clinic will feature skills work taught by the team and coaches and will feature autographs and prizes! Boys and girls in second through eighth grade are welcome to participate.
ABOUT THE THUNDERING HERD: Marshall is 1-0 after a dominant, 93-55, win over Miami's fellow MAC member Kent State on Friday. The Thundering Herd raced to a 57-24 halftime lead and never looked back. The bench contributed 62 of Marshall's 93 points in the game, led by 16 point apiece from junior college transfers, Shynisha Johnson and Jasmine Shaw. The Herd were 9-21 last season and 5-11 in Conference USA. They return four starters and seven letterwinners, but bring in heavy reinforcements with 11 newcomers-including the two aforementioned transfers. The leading returning scorer from last year is senior guard Latiedra Evans. She averaged 9.2 points and 3.4 assists per game.
THE SERIES WITH MARSHALL: Miami dominated the series with the Thundering Herd when the school was in the Mid-American Conference, and currently leads the overall series, 17-3. In their last meeting on Dec. 6, 2010 in Oxford, the RedHawks blasted Marshall, 89-63. Miami finished the game 12-for-21 from behind the arc. Courtney Osborn led four RedHawks in double figures with 26 points.
MIAMI VS. CONFERENCE USA: Marshall's current home is in the geographically diverse Conference USA. Miami is 18-7 all-time against the current 12 members that make up the conference, with the majority of them obviously against the Thundering Herd. Against other CUSA schools, the RedHawks are 0-1 all-time vs. East Carolina, 1-1 vs. Houston and 0-2 against Tulane. Miami has never faced Memphis, Rice, SMU, Southern Miss, Tulsa, UAB, Central Florida or UTEP.
UP NEXT FOR THE REDHAWKS: Miami begins its 16-game home schedule when it welcomes UMass to Millett Hall on Saturday for a 2 p.m. tip. The RedHawks will then host Indiana on Tuesday, Nov. 22 in a pre-Thanksgiving showdown at 7 p.m. All home games will be broadcast live on Miami All-Access for those that have a subscription.
