Miami Hockey Postgame Notes
With the win Friday, Miami stretched its win streak to a season-best three games, all by a score of 2-1. The one goal surrendered ties a season low for the RedHawks. Miami is also now 5-2 in one-goal games this season.
By beating No. 4/5 Michigan, Miami defeated a top-five ranked opponent for the first time since Nov. 7, 2009 when the `Hawks also beat No. 4 Michigan by a score of 5-1. The RedHawks also won their first game over a ranked opponent this season Friday.
Freshman Tyler Biggs is now riding a career-best five-game point-streak after his second career goal Friday. The score was also the game-winner, his first-career game-winning goal. He is now second on the team's scoring list with six points behind senior Alden Hirschfeld, who has seven points. Biggs' point-streak is the longest of any RedHawk this season.
Miami's penalty kill was a perfect 3-for-3 on Friday night and has now killed 19-straight penalties dating back to Oct. 28, a stretch of four games.
For the first time in school history, Miami has now beaten the Michigan Wolverines four times in a row, sweeping them last year in Oxford and topping UM in the 2010 Midwest Regional Final. Miami has also now won six of the last seven meetings with Michigan and is 8-3 vs. Michigan since the 2008-09 season
Junior Garrett Kennedy recorded first point of the season and the third of his career on an assist on a goal by freshman Jimmy Mullin. He continues to lead the team with a +6 rating. Junior Joe Hartman also notched his first point of the season with an assist on Mullin's goal.
Junior Curtis McKenzie dished out an assist on Biggs' goal, giving him a three-game point streak, which ties a career long.
