On Saturday, Miami Athletics honored eight student-athletes with the department's most prestigious annual awards, which included three new award. Carter Camper (ice hockey) and Jenna McGivney (softball) were the first recipients of the Dr. Phillip Shriver Culture of Champions Medal of Honor, while Jordan Gafford (football) was named the inaugural Darrell Hedric Award winner. Rachel Patterson (women's cross country/track and field) captured the Leann Grimes Davidge Award and shared the Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year honor with Brooke Livingston (women's soccer). Andy Miele (ice hockey) was named the Male Athlete of the Year, while Jessica Simpson (softball) was tabbed the Female Athlete of the Year. Jon Edgington (baseball) earned Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors. (RELEASE)
FOOTBALL
Last Week: For just the third time in program history, Miami had a receiver record three-straight 100-yard receiving days as sophomore wide receiver Nick Harwell amassed 149 yards on six catches against Cincinnati. With his 252 yards passing, junior quarterback Zac Dysert moved into fourth on Miami's all-time passing yardage chart. Miami (0-4; 0-1 MAC) fell Cincinnati, 27-0, on Saturday afternoon at Yager Stadium. (RECAP) (PHOTO GALLERY) This Week: The RedHawks round out a three-game homestand, hosting Army at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8. WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
Last Week: For the second straight year, Miami won the All-Ohio Championship, as all five scoring RedHawks finished in the top 14 last Friday afternoon at Cedarville University's King Cross Country Course. Miami totaled just 36 points, seven fewer than last year's winning team, to capture the 5K race, despite a muddy course and cold, windy, rainy conditions. Senior Maggie Bingham led the way for the second straight race, clocking 17:58.11 to earn runner-up honors. (RECAP) This Week: The RedHawks have the week off before heading to the Penn State National Meet on Oct. 14.
MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
Last Week: Junior David Eichenberger was named Mid-American Conference Male Scholar-Athlete of the Week for the week of Sept. 19-25 after leading Miami to its third team title at the LSU Invitational. Eichenberger carries a 3.94 grade-point average while double majoring in exercise science and history. (RELEASE) Running on just six days rest, the RedHawks finished in sixth place Friday afternoon at the All-Ohio Championships, hosted by Cedarville. Junior Jarrod Eick paced Miami for the third time this year, placing seventh in a season-best 8K time of 25:19.36. (RECAP) This Week: The RedHawks have the week off before heading to the Penn State National Meet on Oct. 14.

VOLLEYBALL
Last Week: Miami (12-6; 3-1 MAC) picked up a pair of conference wins last weekend. Bolstered by 23 digs from Madison Hardy, Miami earned a hard-fought four-set win over Buffalo on Friday evening at Millett Hall. (RECAP) (PHOTO GALLERY) The RedHawks returned to the court Saturday and collected a 3-0 win over Akron with Cassie Farrell posting 12 kills in the winning effort. (RECAP) This Week: Miami hits the road for a 7 p.m. match at Bowling Green on Thursday before traveling to Northern Illinois for an 8 p.m. match on Saturday.
FIELD HOCKEY
Last Week: Olivia Miller scored two goals to lead Miami (4-9; 2-2 MAC) to a key, 2-1, victory over Kent State Saturday. Miller scored the game-winner in the 47th minute of the contest against the Golden Flashes. (RECAP) The RedHawks dropped a 2-0 decision at Ohio on Sunday. (RECAP) This Week: Miami hosts Ball State at 6 p.m. Wednesday. The game will be available to view on www.MURedHawks.com through the Miami All-Access subscription package. Miami then hosts Missouri State at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
GOLF
Last Week: Miami finished in 11th place last Tuesday after shooting a final round of 306 at the Fighting Irish Gridiron Classic. Mark MacDonald finished as Miami's top individual player for the tournament. He tied for 24th place at 11-over par. (RECAP) This Week: The RedHawks return to action Oct. 10-11 when they participate in the Firestone Invitational in Akron, Ohio.

WOMEN'S SOCCER
Last Week: A slow start proved to be too much to overcome for Miami (6-5-0; 1-4-0 MAC) as Ball State scored two goals in the first 22 minutes and the RedHawks were unable to complete a comeback, falling, 2-1, Friday afternoon at Miami Soccer Field. (RECAP) On Sunday, the RedHawks suffered a 3-0 loss to league-leader Toledo. (RECAP) (PHOTO GALLERY) This Week: Miami hits the road for a pair of games, traveling to Central Michigan for a 4:30 p.m. game on Friday, Oct. 7. The RedHawks then travel to Eastern Michigan for a 1 p.m. game on Sunday, Oct. 9.
ICE HOCKEY
Last Week: Senior goaltender Cody Reichard and junior forward Reilly Smith were both named to the Preseason All-CCHA First Team while two other RedHawks garnered preseason second-team honors. Seniors Will Weber and Chris Wideman made up the defensive duo on the Preseason All-CCHA Second Team. (RELEASE) Behind a three-goal second period, No. 1/2 Miami collected a 4-1 exhibition win over Windsor Sunday afternoon at Steve Cady Arena. Senior Alden Hirschfeld posted two goals in the winning effort. (RECAP) This Week: Miami opens the 2011-12 campaign hosting Bemidji State this weekend. Friday's game starts at 7:35 p.m. with Saturday's game set for 7:05 p.m. The games will be available to view on www.MURedHawks.com through the Miami All-Access subscription package. Saturday's game will be televised on ONN.
Men's swimming and diving opens its season this Saturday in Carbondale, Ill., facing Evansville and Southern Illinois.
