Miami Head Coach Don Treadwell
Overall thoughts after the win
Good team win. You guys know how we are. We reserve some of the judgment until we see the tape tomorrow. Overall, I think the big thing that was pretty obvious from behind the scenes was that we had a really good week of practice. We've had good weeks of practice before, but I'll tell you what, our kids really brought a little extra juice if you will. You could just see the momentum develop a little bit earlier through the week.
On preventing Buffalo from scoring when they had first and goal from the one yard line
I think even the play before that. Think about it, they pick it up off the fumble and our quarterback shoe-string tackles him before he falls, almost seemingly, into the endzone. That right there just gives you an idea of the intensity of our kids. The defense fed off of that.
On Miami backup quarterback Austin Boucher appearing for one drive during the game
We were gonna get him in there on either the third or fourth series. Just give him a chance to run a series because he's been doing a good job. It wasn't just this week - it's kind of been building - and we wanted to get him in there and give him a chance to get his feet wet when the game is on the line and things are moving forward. Nothing can replace game experience, and it means a lot when you can get him in early. We planned that all along, to put him in the game.
On shutting down Buffalo's rushing attack
That was just a great team effort there, because there wasn't really any particular scheme that we said, `hey here's what's gonna do that'. We pretty much did what we do, but a lot of times as you know, if you watch defenses, if one guy can defeat his guy, and either get in the backfield or disrupt something, that's all it takes.
Miami Defensive End C.J. Marck
On whether the team prepared differently this week due to the 49-28 loss to Toledo last weekend
We prepare the same every week as far as wanting to win, but definitely after Toledo we had a bad taste in our mouth so. We definitely got after it in practice as far as the little things; going back to fundamentals.
Miami Quarterback Zac Dysert
Overall thoughts on his strong game
Our O-line did a great job giving me a lot of time. They made me feel real comfortable back there and my receivers were making plays for me. I've got to give all the credit to the receivers and the O-line for making some plays for me, giving me time.
With a game like that, I think it kind of proves to everyone that we can do that kind of stuff. We have doubts sometimes, as a team. With wins like that, it lets you know how good we can play. Especially when everyone is clicking on all cylinders - defense played well also.
On carrying the offensive success of this game into the next week
I think we will go watch the film and just build on everything we did in the game. All the good stuff, and then just learn from the mistakes. There weren't many, but we have to learn from those that we did make and make sure that we don't repeat them again.
On his touchdown-saving tackle
I wasn't sure if I was going to get him, I just wanted to get in his way. I didn't really have any clue what was going to happen, but I tried to make a stab at it, and luckily I got him.
Miami Cornerback Dayonne Nunley
On whether he had fun during the victory
It was a fun day. It was a lot better than last week. I enjoyed it a lot.
On shutting Buffalo down after the first two series
It was just, slow down. Slow down. Let the game come to us. Play fast and compete.
On any problems the Buffalo offense presented
No, no. No problems. The one ball that was caught on me was a great pass. I have to give Buffalo's quarterback credit because it was a great throw.
Buffalo Head Coach Jeff Quinn Overall thoughts after the loss
Miami did a great job. I'm disappointed in myself, the coaches, and our players in terms of what we saw on film is what we got on the field today. We certainly weren't responding mentally, physically, and emotionally today and that's what is so disappointing.
Miami's touchdown on the second play from scrimmage
If you can score on the second play of the game, at home, that is a way to set the tone, and I give Miami credit. They are a good team, they have great players, and they're the defending MAC champs. I don't care what their record is, as I told these guys, they're still the defending MAC champs. We didn't come down here with the same intensity and that same tone-setting mentality.
On Buffalo's offensive struggles
You have to have the right attitude and competitive fire every week to succeed. Miami ran gap plays and zone plays, just like we did. The difference was that they out executed us with more effort and determination and that's what's disappointing to witness.
