With students returning to Oxford for the start of the second semester last week, several Miami athletic teams also returned home for competition after several weeks on the road while four teams resumed their season after month-long breaks.

The 12th-ranked hockey team (13-8-3, 10-6-2-1 CCHA) swept Bowling Green over the weekend in its first home series in over a month, snapping a three-game losing skid. On Friday, Miami downed the Falcons, 5-1, behind two short-handed goals, a power play goal and a trio of assists from senior Andy Miele (RECAP). Saturday, the `Hawks completed their second sweep of BGSU this season with a 3-1 victory led by sophomore Reilly Smith, who had a hand in each goal, including scoring twice, while junior goalie Cody Reichard earned his second win in as many nights. All the scoring came in the first 12 minutes of the game. (RECAP) Miami begins a four-game road swing this weekend, Jan. 21-22, when it faces Michigan State at Munn Arena. Puck drop Friday is 7:35 p.m. and will be on CBS College Sports Network while Saturday's game is at 7:05 p.m. on Comcast Television.

The men's basketball team (7-10, 2-1 MAC) returned to Millett Hall for the first time in several weeks last Thursday, as the RedHawks used a three-pointer from senior forward Nick Winbush with 28 ticks left to break a 65-65 tie and earn a 70-67 victory over Buffalo. Junior forward Julian Mavunga finished with 21 points. (RECAP) Sunday, Miami got 14 points from sophomore guard Orlando Williams but a late first-half surge by Bowling Green pushed the Falcons ahead of the `Hawks for good, as Miami fell, 62-53, suffering its first loss in league play this year. (RECAP) The RedHawks host MAC East rival Akron at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 19 before hitting the road for Kent State Sunday, Jan. 23, for a 2 p.m. tip.

Women's basketball (10-7, 2-2 MAC) played its first home game in over a month on Wednesday, hosting Buffalo for the annual Class at the Court game, in which 1,500 elementary students from the Talawanda School District come to the game. The RedHawks came out on fire and received a double-double from sophomore guard Courtney Osborn and 22 points each from junior guard Maggie Boyer and sophomore forward Kirsten Olowinski, as Miami topped the Bulls, 94-89. (RECAP) The `Hawks then won their second straight league game Saturday, as Olowinski chipped in a career-high 27 points to lead Miami to a 68-63 win at Akron. (RECAP) The women host rival Ohio Tuesday, Jan. 18 at 7 p.m. to round out their first go-round of the East Division before heading to Northern Illinois Sunday for a 4 p.m. ET contest to begin West Division play.

Miami's 34th head football coach, Don Treadwell, was officially welcomed back to his alma mater with his introductory press conference last Monday. WATCH THE PRESS CONFERENCE Treadwell also made several coaching announcements throughout the week, naming John Klacik and Pete Rekstis, offensive and defensive coordinators, respectively (RELEASE), Charlie Fisher the passing game coordinator and Zak Willis special teams coach and recruiting coordinator (RELEASE) and tabbed three more assistants Saturday, including a pair of former Miami standouts in Deland McCullough and Jay Peterson. Miami's men's and women's swimming and diving teams each picked up a pair of dual meet victories last week, as the men returned to the pool for the first time in over a month. The teams hosted Evansville Wednesday for their first home meet of 2011, as the women (7-1, 2-0 MAC) won 12 of 16 events to capture of a 193.5-104.5 victory over the Purple Aces and claim their sixth straight dual meet win. (RECAP) The `Hawks made it seven straight dual meet wins Friday by knocking off Cincinnati, 175.5-124.5, as Miranda Kaltenborn and Megan Brunn each won two individual events. (RECAP) The women make their next splash Saturday, Jan. 22 at Ball State at 1 p.m.

On the men's side (3-4-1, 1-1 MAC), nine different RedHawks won events Wednesday in a 170-110 win over Evansville, led by junior James Beres, who won both diving events. (RECAP) On Friday, the RedHawks topped the Bearcats 165-113 behind two individual wins from junior Chris Gunnels while he also swam on two winning relay teams and Beres again swept the diving events. (RECAP) The men return to the pool Saturday, Jan. 29 at Eastern Michigan.
SWIMMING & DIVING PHOTO GALLERY VS. EVANSVILLE
Miami's collegiate and senior synchronized skating teams returned to the ice for the first time in over a month last weekend at the Mid-America Championships in Fraser, Mich., as the collegiate team took first place with a score of 84.39, winning by nearly seven points. The senior team took runner-up honors with a score of 125.15 in the free skate Sunday, finishing a mere two points behind first, and was second overall after taking second in the short program Saturday. (RECAP) The collegiate team next competes at the Midwestern Championships (Feb. 5-6) and the senior team travels to the Spring Cup in Milan, Italy Feb. 11-13.
The women's track and field team also competed for the first time in over a month last Saturday, as the RedHawks finished fourth out of seven teams at the BGSU Team Challenge, hosted by Bowling Green. Three `Hawks won individual events as senior Hope Alexander claimed the triple jump, junior Jillian Dickman won the mile run and sophomore Katie Scannell took first in the 500m run. (RECAP) The RedHawks are in action this weekend at the All-Ohio Championships, hosted by Kent State, Jan. 21-22 in Kent, Ohio.
The two-time defending MAC champion women's tennis team also starts its 2011 schedule this week, hosting Xavier at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 22 in Hamilton before welcoming another local rival, Dayton, the next day at noon also in Hamilton.
Three women's soccer players were named All-Ohio by the Ohio Collegiate Soccer Association last week, as seniors Brooke Livingston and Julie Thompson earned first-team honors while freshman Kayla Zakrzewski was named to the second team. (RELEASE)
