There were plenty of nationally-ranked teams on the docket for RedHawk teams last week and several strong performances across the board.

The field hockey team zapped No. 19 Iowa on Sunday, 5-1, to remain undefeated on the season. Five different players scored against the Hawkeyes for Miami, which improved to 5-0 on the season. (RECAP) On Saturday, Miami blanked Brown in a neutral-site game, 1-0. The RedHawks held the Bears without a shot attempt the entire game. Jackie Nguyen collected the rebound of her own blocked shot to score the game's only goal. (RECAP) Scoring six goals in Miami's first three games, Nguyen also was tabbed the MAC Offensive Player of the Week last week. (RELEASE) The RedHawks have 12 days off before hosting No. 17 Indiana in their home-opener at 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 17.

Football entertains Eastern Michigan this weekend it its home opener on Saturday at 2 p.m., and it will be televised on ONN and Sports Time Ohio. The game has been dubbed a "White Out" and all Miami fans are encouraged to wear their Miami white and get out to the game. Miami's defense turned in a stellar performance last weekend in its season opener - limiting No. 3/4 Florida to just 41 yards through three quarters - but the Gators capitalized on several big plays for a 34-12 victory Saturday afternoon in "The Swamp". The RedHawks were within nine points in the fourth quarter at 21-9 before the Gators sealed the game with a pair of touchdowns late in the fourth quarter. Trevor Cook kicked a career-best four field goals for the RedHawks. (RECAP) Miami hosts five home games this season, and it's not too late to get in on the action. Senior Rachel Patterson won the individual title at the Dayton Flyer 5K Challenge to lead the Miami University women's cross country to victory last Saturday in its season-opening meet. The RedHawks have now won the race four straight years and placed four runners among the top six finishers. (RECAP)

The men's cross country team opened its 2010 season in convincing fashion, winning the Dayton Flyer 5K Challenge Saturday morning at Indian Riffle Park. The RedHawks won the meet for the sixth time in seven years. Sophomore Jarrod Eick placed third overall in 15:14 to lead the way, while six 'Hawks finished among the top 11 runners. (RECAP)
For the first time since 2006, Miami cross country will hold a home meet. The RedHawks host the Miami Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 11. The men's race begins at 10 a.m. with the women's race slated for 10:30 a.m. on Miami University's Western Campus.
After spending its first two weekends on the road, the volleyball team (1-5) hosts Wright State on Wednesday, Sept. 8 at 7 p.m. in its home opener. Last weekend, Miami dropped a three-set match to host No. 16 Kentucky (RECAP) at the Kentucky Classic, lost a three-set match to Ohio State (RECAP) and had a 1-3 loss to South Florida. (RECAP) This weekend, The RedHawks head to Ann Arbor for the Michigan Invitational. Miami faces Chicago State on Friday before taking on Youngstown State Saturday morning and host Michigan on Saturday evening.
The women's soccer team (3-2-0) suffered its first loss of the season last Friday as Butler defeated Miami, 5-2. (RECAP) A goal in the 85th minute handed the RedHawks their second straight loss as Miami was edged Sunday afternoon by DePaul, 3-2. (RECAP) Miami finishes its six-game road stretch at the East Tennessee State Tournament next weekend. The RedHawks face Winthrop at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 10 before facing Temple at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 12.
The golf team gets its season underway at the Purdue/Midwest Shootout on Saturday before traveling to the Marshall Invitational Sept. 13-14.
