IOWA CITY, Iowa - A fantastic defensive effort allowed the Miami field hockey team to continue its perfect start to the season with a 1-0 win over Brown on Saturday in Iowa City, Iowa. The RedHawks held the Bears without a shot attempt for the entire 70 minute game. Miami improves to 4-0 on the season, while Brown falls to 0-1.
"I thought we played excellent defense, especially in the second half," said head coach Jill Reeve. "We were a little off our game offensively, but Brown played well on that end."
After a scoreless first half where the RedHawks outshot the Bears, 3-0, Miami came out firing in the second half. In the 37th minute, Jackie Nguyen collected the rebound of her own blocked shot to score the game's only goal. The RedHawks were able to manage 13 shots during the remainder of the period but were unable to score again.
Still Coach Reeve wanted to single out a specific player for that improved offensive effort.
"Kate Snyder played strong for 70 minutes," said Reeve. "I appreciated her leadership and how she created several attacking opportunities."
Miami remains in Iowa City Sunday for a contest against 19th-ranked Iowa. Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m. (EDT).
