Football won its second straight with a 31-10 triumph over Colorado State Saturday. |
Many former student-athletes were in town for alumni weekends for football, baseball, soccer and volleyball as Miami hosted several home events last weekend. This week, all but one team will be on the road and three teams are opening up Mid-American Conference action.
For the third straight week, Miami scored in every quarter as the football team (2-1; 1-0 MAC) rolled to a 31-10 win over Colorado State on Saturday. Sophomore quarterback Zac Dysert threw for 231 yards and three touchdowns, converting an impressive 18-of-22 passes with no interceptions. (RECAP) Senior running back Thomas Merriweather was tabbed the MAC Offensive Player of the Week last week for his performance in Miami's MAC opener against Eastern Michigan. (RELEASE) After traveling to Missouri this week to face the Tigers at 2 p.m. (ET), the RedHawks return home to host Kent State on Oct. 2 for Family Weekend. A special Friends and Family Ticket Package, which includes four tickets, four McDonald's extra value meal vouchers and four Miami caps for under $40 is available for the Oct. 2 game. To order tickets, fans can do so in person at the Athletic Ticket Office or by phoning 1-866-MUHAWKS (1-866-684-2957) or 513-529-HAWK, or online.

(RECAP) Junior Giselle Mangal scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner in the 81st minute, to send the RedHawks to a 3-2 victory over Evansville on Sunday. Prior to the match, Miami's six seniors (Rachelle Boff, Jessica Byron, Rachel Byron, Brooke Livingston, Sara Lund and Julie Thompson) were honored as part of the Senior Day festivities. Facing its toughest competition of the season, the women's cross country team put on a strong showing Friday afternoon at the Spartan Invitational, led by senior Rachel Patterson, who was the overall runner-up at the Michigan State-hosted meet. The RedHawks placed five runners in the top 30 at the 6K meet, which was unscored, out of 231 runners. Patterson led the way for the second time in 2010, as she took second in a personal-best time of 20:54, which ranks her second in Miami 6K history. (RECAP) Miami next runs on Oct. 1 at the All-Ohio Championship in Cedarville, Ohio.
Despite facing its toughest test of the season, the men's cross country team rose to the occasion as five RedHawks finished in the top 25 Friday at the 8K Spartan Invitational hosted by Michigan State. Redshirt sophomore David Eichenberger led the way for Miami placing 11th in a personal-best 25:04. The next four RedHawks to finish all clocked in within 10 seconds of each other, running as a pack for much of the race. (RECAP) The RedHawks are back on the course Oct. 1 at the All-Ohio Championship in Cedarville, Ohio.
Field hockey was edged twice in the final minutes of the games. |
Field hockey (5-2) lost a pair of heartbreakers last weekend, each coming off penalty corner goals in the final minutes of the game. The RedHawks suffered their first loss of the season on Friday in their home opener against Indiana, 2-1. (RECAP) It was like déjàvu when the RedHawks lost their second straight by the same score in similar fashion as Miami suffered a 2-1 loss at Northwestern on Sunday. (RECAP) The RedHawks open Mid-American Conference play at Ohio on Saturday and travel to Kent State for another MAC game on Sunday.

The golf team finished its first full-field event with a two-over par team round of 284 last Tuesday to place sixth at the Marshall Invitational. The RedHawks ended the tournament at six-under par. Although his score did not count for the Miami team total, freshman Austin Kelly finished an amazing tournament with a 66 in the final round. He was the top RedHawk finisher at 10-under par and placed fourth overall in the tournament. (RECAP) Miami returns to action this week, participating in the Cardinal Intercollegiate in Louisville, Ky., Monday and Tuesday.
