Miami Sweeps Throws at RedHawk Invitational

OXFORD, Ohio - The Miami University women's track and field team captured 11 events titles, including seven of eight field events, Saturday at the RedHawk Invitational-the team's second and final home meet of the season-held at overcast Rider Track on Miami's campus. Several RedHawks competed at the prestigious Penn Relays Thursday and Friday and sat out Saturday's meet to rest.
Miami faced a limited field that included athletes from the University of Cincinnati and Cedarville University at the meet.
Sophomore Samantha Gable (Greenfield, Ind.) claimed two event titles, taking first in the shot put with a personal-best heave of 45-5.75/13.86m, which ranks her sixth all-time at Miami, and first in the hammer throw with another personal-best distance of 177-2/54.02m, which places her third all-time in the hammer among RedHawks. Fellow sophomore Alexandra Roberts (Hilliard, Ohio), who finished second in the shot put, won the discus with a personal-best toss of 145-3/44.29m, which moves her into ninth on Miami's all-time list. Gable was the runner-up in the discus with a personal-best throw of 142-9/43.52m.
Sophomore Sarah Kinnaman (Carmel, Ind.) captured the top spot in the pole vault with a personal-best clearance of 12-1.5/3.70m, which ranks her fourth all-time at Miami. Junior Magda Wikar (Winnetka, Ill.) won the long jump with a leap of 18-2.25/5.54m while sophomore Krista Stillson (Naperville, Ill.) was first in the triple jump with a season-best jump of 36-5.75/11.12m. Junior Alexia DeWitz (Greenwood, Ind.) also was victorious in the javelin with a throw of 103-1/31.44m.
Sophomore Maggie Bingham (Carmel, Ind.) won the 1500m run in 4:40.62 while fellow sophomore Brigid Carey (Birmingham, Ala.) claimed the 5000m title in 18:21.92. In the 100m hurdles, freshman Layne Baggett (Pittsburgh, Pa.) finished first in 14.71 while redshirt freshman Katie Scannell (Cortland, Ohio) won the 400m hurdles in a season-best 1:03.37.
The RedHawks return to action next weekend, April 30-May 1 at the Jesse Owens Classic, hosted by Ohio State University.
