What a week ââ'¬Â¦ a No. 1 overall seed, one RedHawk earning All-America honors for the first time in program history, home openers for baseball and softball, while postseason honors keep rolling in for several winter sport student athletes.
Congratulations to junior Kelsey Vehr, who earned All-America status for the first time in women's swimming and diving program history! Vehr finished seventh in the 100 breaststroke at the NCAA Championships to earn the ground-breaking honor. (RECAP) Competing in two events, Vehr also placed 18th in the 200 breaststroke. (RECAP) This weekend men's diver Cameron Horner competes at the NCAA Championships in Columbus, Ohio. (RELEASE)
Hockey earned the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament and are the No. 1 seed in the Midwest Regional, facing No. 4 seed Alabama-Huntsville in Ft. Wayne, Ind. at 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 27. The game will be televised on ESPNU. The winner faces the winner of the No. 2 seed Bemidji State/No. 3 seed Michigan winner at 8 p.m. on Sunday. (RELEASE)

Four members of the hockey program earned CCHA specialty awards with Cody Reichard being named RBC Player of the Year and Enrico Blasi capturing Coach of the Year honors. Tommy Wingels was tabbed the league's Best Defensive Forward, while Will Weber was selected as the Best Defensive Defenseman. (RELEASE) The RedHawks (27-7-7) picked up a 2-1 win over Ferris State in the consolation game of the CCHA Tournament (RECAP) after falling to Michigan in the semifinals, 5-2. (RECAP)

Brick Street Bar hosted the official viewing party for the hockey selection with 15 percent of food purchased during the gathering being donated to the Brendan Burke Memorial Scholarship. A great crowd was on hand as ESPN was live from Oxford with an interview with Coach Blasi during the show. Additionally a raffle was held for a week-long trip to Hilton Head, S.C. with all proceeds from the raffle going to the scholarship fund. Over $3,100 was raised for the scholarship. And the winner is ââ'¬Â¦ ticket #24 Amy Martin! Congratulations to Amy and a very special thank you to the Weisman Family and Brick Street Bar!

Two RedHawks earned MAC East Division weekly honors for softball last week. Senior outfielder Alicia Hogl was the player of the week, while sophomore pitcher Jessica Simpson was the pitcher of the week. (RELEASE) In its home opener against Western Illinois, the RedHawks suffered a 5-1 loss in 14 innings before falling 5-3 in the night cap. (RECAP) The RedHawks opened the Miami Invitational with a 6-1 win over Robert Morris on Friday. (RECAP) Miami was edged 2-1 by Canisius on Saturday but came back to capture the program's first win against Michigan State with a 3-1 triumph. (RECAP) Miami rounded out its home tournament with an 8-0 non-conference win over Toledo. With a 3-1 record for the weekend tournament, Miami won the Invitational. (RECAP) Miami (11-13) returns to action Wednesday for a 3 p.m. game at Purdue in its lone contest of the week.

(RELEASE) The baseball team (8-9) earned a 3-1 win over Northern Kentucky in its home opener last Wednesday. (RECAP) In the first two games of a three-game series, the RedHawks scored in just two innings of Saturday's doubleheader but totaled 15 runs and managed a split with the Gamecocks, earning a 7-6 comeback win in the nightcap after falling 14-8 in the first game. (RECAP) The RedHawks were edged in Sunday's game, 2-0, in a game shortened by rain that was called in the fifth inning. (RECAP) The RedHawks return to the diamond Tuesday for a 3 p.m. contest at Eastern Kentucky before hosting the Colonels on Wednesday at 6 p.m. Miami opens Mid-American Conference play this weekend, hosting Central Michigan in a three-game series with games at 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and at 1 p.m. on Sunday.

Women's tennis (7-4) played a pair of matches in Wilmington, N.C., over the weekend. The RedHawks pulled out a 4-3 win over Georgia State on Saturday but was nipped 4-3 by host UNC Wilmington on Sunday. Megan Martzolf and Cara Wald went 2-0 for the weekend at No. 3 and No. 5 singles, respectively. The RedHawks start Mid-American Conference play this weekend, hosting Western Michigan on Friday and Bowling Green on Saturday at the Hepburn Varsity Courts. Both matches are scheduled for 1 p.m.
Golf finished 10th among an 18-team field at the Rio Pinar Invitational last week. Junior Nathan Sutherland shot a 3-over-par 219 to finish in a tie for 14th place and was the top MAC finisher at the event. (RECAP) Miami returns to action April 3-4 at the Irish Creek Collegiate in Charlotte, N.C.
Several throwers on the women's track and field team began their 2010 outdoor season Saturday at the Early Bird Relays hosted by Cincinnati. Sophomore Alexandra Roberts placed second in the shot put event. (RECAP) The entire team is in action March 26-27 at the Vanderbilt Black and Gold meet.
Decathletes on the men's track and field team competed in the Charlotte 49er Classic Thursday and Friday hosted by UNC-Charlotte. Freshman Reggie Mitchell finished fourth in his collegiate decathlon debut. (RECAP) The entire team is in action March 27 at the Vanderbilt Invitational.
Congratulations to senior guard Kenny Hayes, who earned National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) First-Team All-District 14 honors. (RELEASE) Former men's basketball standout Chet Mason also earned hardware last weekend. Mason-playing with KK Siroki in Bosnia-was named MVP of the Adriatic League, considered one of the top European leagues. (STATS) He became the first American to capture MVP honors.
Football had its first spring practice on Saturday (RELEASE), and the women's soccer team posted a 1-0 win over Indiana State on Saturday afternoon in its first spring game. (RECAP)
