Women's Tennis Takes Down Mountaineers, 6-1

HUNTINGTON, W. Va, -- Miami swept all three doubles matches, then took five of six during singles play to down West Virginia, 6-1, Saturday in women's tennis action. The match was played at Huntington Racquet Club as part of a three-day round robin schedule with Marshall.
The 71st-ranked RedHawks (3-1) swept through doubles to open a 1-0 lead. Stephanie Danesis and Megan Martzolf started things off with an 8-1 at No.1. Anastasia Dracheva and Brintney Larson (No. 2) and Cara Wald and Riekie Honiball (No. 3) both posted 8-3 victories.
In singles play, a pair of RedHawks did not lose a game. Danesis, playing No. 1, for the first time this season, and No. 4 Honiball each defeated their opponents 6-0, 6-0. Larson took her opponent at No. 5, 6-1, 6-0 then Martzolf won 6-3, 6-0.
The RedHawks' final poing came from Dracheva at No. 2 as she posted a 6-2, 6-4 win. West Virginia earned its lone point of the morning when Wald fell at No. 6, 6-0, 4-6, 0-1 (0-10).
Miami continues its road trip when it faces Marshall at noon on Sunday.
