OXFORD, Ohio - In preparation for their trip to nationals, the Miami junior, collegiate and senior synchronized skating teams will hold a National Send-Off Exhibition on Monday, March 1. All three teams will showcase their programs at Steve Cady Arena at the Goggin Ice Center starting at 5 p.m.
The junior and senior teams are coming off strong performances in Neuchatel, Switzerland, at the Neuchatel Trophy where both RedHawk skating ensembles placed second overall. Miami's junior team placed second in both the short and free skate events, while the senior team finished second the short program and third in the free skate.
This send-off exhibition skate will be the last public performance by any of the synchronized skating teams before heading to the U.S. National Championships in Minneapolis, Minn., on March 4-6. The event is geared towards not only students, but family, fans and skating enthusiasts to show their support for the squads as they prepare for their departure.
Miami skating has become a familiar name at the U.S. National Championships, with the senior and collegiate teams entering this year's event with titles to defend. For the collegiate team, a win at the 2010 Championships would be their sixth- straight and twelfth-overall title, while the senior team enters as reigning national champions as well.
Miami senior synchronized skating squad also is seeking a berth to the ISU World Synchronized Championships in Colorado Springs, Colo., with a top-two finish at the National Championships.
Admission to the National Send-Off Exhibition is free and open to the public.
