OXFORD, Ohio -- Miami University's Mid-American Conference champion football team celebrated its 2010 season Saturday night at the Shriver Center, handing out five awards to three seniors, a sophomore and a freshman.
Coach Michael Haywood's team was America's most improved college football team this season, winning nine games, eight more than it had won in 2009. Haywood was named MAC Coach of the Year.
Senior wide receiver Armand Robinson (Reynoldsburg), who caught 90 passes for 981 yards and six touchdowns, was named Miami's Offensive Player of the Year. Robinson earned second-team All-MAC honors and tied the school's single-game record for receptions (14) against Northern Illinois in the title game, including the game-winning TD with just 33 seconds remaining.
Sophomore linebacker Evan Harris (Waldorf, MD) was honored as the RedHawks' Defensive Player of the Year. In 13 games, he notched 85 tackles, nine-and-a-half tackles for loss and five interceptions.
Senior placekicker Trevor Cook (Sioux Falls, SD), a first-team All-MAC selection, earned honors as Miami's Special Teams Player of the Year. Cook successfully converted 16-of-22 field goal attempts, including the game-winner as time expired at Bowling Green.
The Scholar Athlete of the Year was senior kickoff specialist Seth Philip (Columbus). Philip earned his undergraduate degree with a nearly perfect 3.98 grade-point average and was a graduate student in accountancy this semester.
The Warrior of the Year, presented to the scout team's most valuable player, was true freshman running back Willie Culpepper (San Antonio, TX).
Miami will play in the GoDaddy.com Bowl against Middle Tennessee in Mobile Alabama on Thursday, January 6th.
