RedHawks Post Second Straight Shutout; Win 3-0 Against Bears

OXFORD, Ohio--Dominating from start to finish, Miami University's field hockey team picked up a 3-0 win against Missouri State University on Sunday afternoon at the Miami Field Hockey Complex. The RedHawks, who recorded their second straight shutout, improve to 8-3 overall and 3-1 in Mid-American Conference action, while the Bears drop to 3-8 on the season and 0-2 in MAC play.
Nearly the entire game was played with the RedHawks on the offensive attack with Miami taking 26 shots to Missouri State's three for the game. Fourteen of the RedHawks' shots were on goal. The Bears had no first-half shots, taking all three in the second period. Miami also took 16 penalty corners to Missouri State's one.
Miami took a 1-0 lead at the 25:43 mark when senior Christine Brightwell knocked in a goal off a junior Amanda Seeley assist on a penalty corner. Just minutes into the second period, the RedHawks took a 2-0 lead when senior Mary Hull scored off a deflection at the 38:11 mark. Sophomore Olivia Miller assisted on the goal.
At the 51:55 mark, Miami added to its lead when senior Kate Snyder blasted in an unassisted goal to hand the RedHawks a 3-0 win.
Freshman Sarah Mueller posted her eighth win in goal for the Red and White.
The RedHawks have a busy week, traveling to Ohio State for a 3 p.m. game on Thursday, Oct. 7, then playing at Michigan at 4 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 8, before resuming conference play at Central Michigan at noon Sunday, Oct. 10.
