Miami Postgame Quotes Head Coach Michael Haywood
"I think it's the psychological disposition of the team coming into a game in which the outside world is making it such a big game and internally we're just trying to preach that this is just another game. I go in at half time and go to talk to the team and the first thing I say to them is that I can feel the energy, we just need to take a deep breath and exhale. We're going out there trying to do more things than the play is asking us to, and we are forcing mistakes. We just need to go out there and do our job."
On Nick Harwell's day, including his fumble at the goalline: "Nick's a freshman; I think there's a lesson learned. There's 25-30 plays we can do better in. I'm going to give him a hug and tell him I love him. He had 219 yards receiving, which is an outstanding day for a freshman and we cannot harp on him for one play, it is the same value as any other play."
On moving forward to next week: "Here's an opportunity for us to learn how to have a positive psychological disposition. Here's an opportunity to build off the mistakes that we made. We want to play as one heartbeat, and the only way we can play that way is if everyone is doing their individual job, but here's an opportunity for you to see that when everyone's doing their own thing and were playing as separate heart beats, we have 99 different heartbeats running around the field and this is the outcome you will get."
On the mistakes: "If you take a look at the film tomorrow, there's a lot of missed tackles. The quarterback goes for a seven-yard gain and you will see 4 missed tackles. We worked on tackling on Tuesday and Wednesday, but we obviously have not worked on it enough."
Zac Dysert
On today's game: "We know what we are capable of and today was just not our day. We know what we can do, we just need to calm down and let things come to us a bit. You want to forget about a loss like this, but you do not want to forget the feeling that we all feel after this game. This feeling needs to be the motivation for the rest of the season."
Nick Harwell
On his fumble at the goalline after an 82-yard catch-and-run:"I feel like I wasn't being a team player, I was pretty selfish and I wasn't thinking. I just go out and try to do my best every day and that one play in particular, I wasn't doing my best. Me as an individual, I need to think more and continue catching the football."
Jordan Gafford
On the pregame hype of today's game: "It was kind of a different setting than a lot of players were used to. Playing in first place was a different experience, and it was a learning experience for most of the team. As much as you try not to focus on it, you could tell that a lot of guys were pressing trying to make that key play and trying to win the game in one play."
D.J. Brown
On the defensive effort: "We need to definitely work on tackling in the open field, because we missed a lot of opportunities to get them down in the backfield. That will be a huge aspect of practice this week."
