While the Miami University campus heads into a long weekend for Fall Break, Miami Athletics is in full swing.
Football returns to Mid-American Conference play this weekend when the RedHawks travel to Central Michigan for a noon game on Saturday, Oct. 17. Last Saturday, Miami (3-3; 2-0 MAC) suffered a 45-3 loss at Cincinnati. Senior kicker Trevor Cook booted a 48-yard field goal for the lone RedHawk points. It was the third-longest field goal of his career and his longest this season. (RECAP) Cook was tabbed MAC East Division Special Teams Player of the Week last Monday for his performance in Miami's win against Kent State.

Congratulations to senior runner Rachel Patterson, who was named the MAC Women's Runner of the Week for the third time this season after she broke the course record and helped the women's cross country team win the All-Ohio Championship title Oct. 1. (RELEASE) The RedHawk women's cross country team returns to action this weekend at the Penn State National Meet on Saturday, Oct. 16 in State College, Pa. The men's cross country team returns to the course at the Falcon Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 16 in Bowling Green, Ohio.
The RedHawk field hockey team had a busy week, playing three games, including two non-conference tilts. Miami (9-5; 4-1 MAC) opened the week at No. 6 Ohio State Thursday, falling to the Buckeyes, 5-1. (RECAP) At No. 15 Michigan, the RedHawks overcame a two-goal deficit to send the game into overtime before being edged by the Wolverines, 4-3. Emily Gruesser tallied two goals for the RedHawks. (RECAP) Returning to MAC action on Sunday, Miami got back on the winning track, downing Central Michigan, 3-2. Senior Mary Hull had two goals in the win. (RECAP) Miami returns to the turf this week, hosting Kent State at noon on Saturday and Ohio at 1 p.m. Sunday.

Congratulations to sophomore Blake English who was named the MAC Golfer of the Week last Thursday. (RELEASE) English tied for fourth place at two-under par to lead Miami to a seventh-place team finish at the Renaissance Invitational in Ft. Myers, Fla., last Monday. (RECAP) After playing five tournaments in four weeks, Miami takes two weeks off before returning to the links Monday, Oct. 18 at the Georgetown Intercollegiate.
No. 3 hockey opened the season splitting the weekend series with No. 8 New Hampshire. Two senior Carter Camper goals helped propel Miami (1-1) to a 6-3 season-opening win against the Wildcats last Friday. (RECAP) (FRIDAY VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS) Five second period goals spearheaded New Hampshire to a 6-3 win on Saturday evening. Junior Alden Hirschfeld tallied three points for the RedHawks. (RECAP) (SATURDAY VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS) Miami returns to the ice this weekend, traveling to St. Cloud State. Both games begin at 8:07 p.m.

Four former RedHawks laced it up for NHL teams starting last weekend. Ryan Jones will play for Edmonton, Andy Greene with New Jersey and Dan Boyle will be joined by rookie Tommy Wingels on the San Jose Sharks as they all take the ice this week looking to embark on another successful season of hockey. The volleyball team (7-12; 2-4 MAC) overcame a slow start on Saturday to down Ohio in four sets. Four different RedHawks amassed double figures for kills, led by Colleen Loftus' 12 kills. She added 12 digs to the winning effort. (RECAP) Miami was edged by Kent State in four games on Friday evening. Loftus also recorded double figures in kills and digs against the Golden Flashes. (RECAP) Miami hits the road for Eastern Michigan on Friday and Central Michigan on Saturday.

The women's soccer team (10-4-1; 3-1-1 MAC) jumped out to a first-half lead and never trailed again as the RedHawks defeated Ball State last Friday, 3-1. (RECAP) In a battle of Mid-American Conference division leaders, Miami fought back to pull even late in the second half and force overtime, but Toledo captured a 2-1 win Sunday afternoon as the Rockets scored in the ninth minute of the extra session. (RECAP) Miami returns to Oxford for its final home games of the regular season, hosting Ohio on Friday, Oct. 15 at 3 p.m. and Akron Sunday, Oct. 17 at 1 p.m.
The softball team finished the fall exhibition season with two home games against Ohio State on Saturday. The Red and White dropped the first game by a 3-1 score and fell, 4-2, in the nightcap. (RECAP)
