This week is Miami vs. the state of Michigan week as four RedHawk squads host at least one Mid-American Conference team from Michigan, including men's basketball hosting Central and Eastern Michigan, hockey hosting Western Michigan for two games and both men's and women's swimming hosting EMU, as well, while women's basketball plays at Central Michigan over the weekend.

Ice Hockey (16-4-6, 13-1-4-2 CCHA) earned five of six points last weekend up in the Last Frontier, as the second-ranked RedHawks played Alaska-Fairbanks to a 1-1 tie Friday night, but senior Jarod Palmer scored the only goal in the shootout to give Miami the extra point. (RECAP) Saturday night, the 'Hawks scored three first-period goals and never looked back as sophomore goalie Connor Knapp recorded his third shutout of the year in a 5-0 victory over the Nanooks. (RECAP) Miami returns home this coming weekend to begin a four-game home stand, as the RedHawks face Western Michigan Friday, Jan. 29 and Saturday, Jan. 30. Puck drop is set for 7:35 p.m. Friday and 5:05 p.m. Saturday with both games at Steve Cady Arena.

Men's basketball (6-12, 3-2 MAC) won its third straight home game Saturday afternoon as sophomore forward/center Julian Mavunga recorded his fifth double-double of the year and Miami scored 45 second-half points to down Bowling Green, 64-52. (RECAP) At halftime of the BGSU game, local elementary students were recognized for their hard work in the Pepsi Championship Reading Program. (RELEASE) Earlier in the week, the RedHawks struggled from the field despite a double-double from senior center Adam Fletcher, as they fell at Akron, 69-49, Wednesday night. (RECAP)

The men continue their four-game, eight-day stretch this week, as they travel to Muncie, Ind. to take on Ball State Tuesday, Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. to begin inter-divisional play before hosting Central Michigan at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 28 and Eastern Michigan at noon on Saturday, Jan. 30 at Millett Hall. Prior to Saturday's game at approximately 11:40 a.m. Head Coach Charlie Coles will be honored for becoming the MAC's all-time leader in league wins, while at halftime Lisa Dankovich will be recognized as the Don Loss Volunteer of the Year. Also, Saturday's game will be "City of Hamilton Day" when residents will be eligible for discounted ticket prices. Radio broadcasts of all three games begin a half hour before tip-off on the Miami ISP Sports Network affiliate stations while Thursday's game will be televised on ONN and Saturday's contest will be on ESPNU. Women's basketball (4-15, 2-4 MAC) suffered a pair of tough setbacks last week, as turnovers doomed the RedHawks Tuesday night at Bowling Green, leading to an 85-65 loss, despite 18 points from sophomore Maggie Boyer. (RECAP) On Saturday afternoon, the women hit the hardwood again, traveling further up Interstate 75 to tangle with Toledo, but freshman Courtney Osborn's 21 points weren't enough, as the Rockets held off Miami, 70-63. (RECAP) The RedHawks return to Millett Hall Wednesday, Jan. 27 for a 7 p.m. tip-off with Northern Illinois before heading to Mt. Pleasant, Mich. to face the Chippewas of Central Michigan at 4 p.m on Saturday, Jan. 30.

Tennis (1-1) opened its season last Friday at the Riverside Racquet Club in Hamilton, starting strong with a 6-1 victory over Xavier, taking the doubles point and winning five of six singles matches. (RECAP) Saturday morning in Hamilton, the 70th-ranked RedHawks fought hard against No. 46 Indiana, again taking the doubles point, but fell just short against the Hoosiers, 4-3. (RECAP) Miami returns to the court Friday, Jan. 29 in Hamilton at 6 p.m. against Cincinnati.

Women's track and field competed at the Gladstein Invitational, hosted by Indiana, on Friday and Saturday. Friday, redshirt sophomore Rachel Patterson and junior Kelley Miller narrowly missed school records in the 3000m and mile, respectively, by less than a second. (RECAP) On Saturday, multiple RedHawks continued to set season and personal bests while sophomore Diona Graves won the 200-meter dash. (RECAP) The women return to Bloomington, Ind. this weekend for the Indiana Relays Jan. 29-30.

The men's track and field team will be in action for the first time this season on Saturday, Jan. 30, as they head to the Findlay Classic for the first of three indoor meets allowed by the NCAA in preparation for the outdoor season.
Women's swimming dropped a MAC dual meet at rival Ohio on Saturday, falling to the Bobcats 167.5-132.5 (RECAP), while men's swimming also lost a MAC dual meet at Buffalo on the same day, 160-131. (RECAP) Both the men's and women's teams will host Eastern Michigan at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30 at the Nixon Aquatic Center.

Synchronized skating was off this past week but returns to the ice Friday and Saturday, Jan. 29-30, at the Midwestern Championships in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Baseball named former RedHawk George Stegmiller its honorary coach for the 2010 season last week, as Stegmiller played for the RedHawks from 1999-2003 and is currently a Captain in the U.S. Marine Corps. (RELEASE)
The Miami University and Ohio University athletic departments have joined forces to hold a blood drive in honor of Miami legendary football coach John Pont, while the schools will compete to see who can donate more blood. Miami held its first drive Jan. 22 and will hold its second and final drive Wednesday, Feb. 24. (RELEASE)
