Kentucky Tops Miami in Season Opener, 42-0

OXFORD, Ohio--After a scoreless first quarter of play, the University of Kentucky rattled off 21 second-quarter points and went on to a 42-0 win against Miami University on Saturday afternoon at Paul Brown Stadium.

Miami sophomore linebacker Jerrell Wedge led all players with a career-high 15 tackles, including one for loss. Miami senior defensive back Jeff Thompson added five solo stops.

Miami was solid out of the gates, outgaining Kentucky in total yardage 98-64 in the first quarter with senior quarterback Daniel Raudabaugh completing six of 11 passes. Junior wide receiver Jamal Rodgers caught three of Raudabaugh's passes for a total of 38 yards receiving.

But Kentucky surged ahead in the second quarter, amassing 21 points off a pair of Mike Hartline touchdown passes sandwiched around a Derrick Locke 16-yard run. Hartline's first touchdown strike was 27 yards to Randall Cobb at 11:28 with his second, a 21-yard throw, to Chris Matthews at 1:55.

The Wildcats extended their lead in the third quarter, with Cobb scoring on a direct snap from 11 yards out at the 11:30 mark and Trevard Lindley reaching the end zone on a 25-yard interception return with 7:28 remaining in the quarter.

UK's Moncell Allen added an insurance score on a nine-yard run with 13:58 remaining in the game with Lones Seiber connecting on his sixth PAT of the day to make the final tally 42-0.

For the game, Kentucky gained 245 yards on the ground and 243 in the air for a total of 488 yards of offense. Hartline passed for 222 yards for the Wildcats, connecting on 18 of 27 passes. Miami gained 62 yards rushing and 126 passing for 188 yards of total offense.

Miami embarks on a four-game road stretch when the RedHawks travel to Boise State on 8 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12.
