Miami Field Hockey Loses Close Match to VCU

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Despite a vigorous effort and early lead, the RedHawk field hockey team lost to Virginia Commonwealth University 2-1. Miami falls to 0-2 on the season, while the Rams are 1-0.
After a difficult loss to Virginia the previous day, Miami came out strong in the opening minutes of play. Freshman midfielder Olivia Miller scored her first career goal with the RedHawks 10:38 into the match off of an assist from senior back Katie Brightwell.
Miami was able to hold VCU to a scoreless first half until Rachel Krumm scored the first Rams goal with less than four minutes remaining until half time.
Tied going into the second half both teams came out aggressive. Despite an additional three shots by Miami and 12 by VCU, neither team was able to capitalize until, with 2:20 left to play forward Lindsay Jones scored unassisted on the 13th Rams shot for the half.
Miami will be back on the road on Sept. 5 to face off against Louisville in Louisville, Ky. at 1 p.m.
