CHILLICOTTHE, Ohio - Three members of the Miami University baseball team earned First-Team All-MAC honors, the Mid-American Conference announced Tuesday evening. Senior first baseman Tommy Nurre (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier), senior pitcher Matt Erwood (Atlanta, Ga./Marist School) and sophomore right fielder Adam Eaton (Springfield, Ohio/Kenton Ridge) all earned first-team distinction for the RedHawks.
Nurre led the RedHawks in batting average (.397), runs batted in (49), on-base percentage (.484) and slugging percentage (.720) this season. The honor is the second of Nurre's career after earning Second-Team All-MAC honors last season. Nurre also enters the 2009 MAC Tournament with the third-best career batting average (.369) in school history.
Eaton has controlled the base paths for the RedHawks this season with 26 steals in 27 chances. He has also reached base safely in all but one of the 49 games he has played in on the campaign. In his career, Eaton has reached base safely in 89 of 99 games and has only missed reaching base safely in back-to-back games once.
Erwood has led the RedHawks' starting rotation, making 13 starts and posting a record of 7-2. Miami also compiled a 10-3 record during Erwood starts. He holds Miami's lowest ERA among starters (4.23) and leads the RedHawks in innings pitched and strike outs. The fifth-year senior finished second in the MAC in ERA among pitchers with at least 10 starts.
This was the first All-MAC honor for Eaton and Erwood.
This is the most first-team all-conference honorees Miami has had since placing four on the first team in 2004. The RedHawks, the No. 5 seed, open Mid-American Conference Tournament play against No. 4 seed Kent State at 9 a.m. Wednesday, May 20.
