OXFORD, Ohio -- The Miami University Men's and Women's Track Teams will work together this summer to host a week-long summer camp for students in grades 7-12. The session will take place on the Miami campus from July 12-16.
Under the guidance of Head Men's Coach Warren Mandrell and Head Women's Coach Rita Arndt-Molis, the camp is intended to prepare athletes physically and mentally for the competitive season ahead. Athletes of all levels will learn how to improve their basic speed, strength and technique, while race strategy and goal-setting will also be discussed.
"Year in and year out, Miami has one of the premier distance programs in the state of Ohio," Arndt-Molis said. "We want to teach a competitive approach to the high school season. We will give everyone tips on the team dynamic and give them tools to take home.
Distance runners will enjoy training on the miles of trails around campus, while the track & field athletes will train on MU's outstanding 10-lane facility. Assistant Coaches Shaun Meinecke, Mark Rodriguez, Chad Reynolds, and Ceith Creekmur will also bring their expertise in various disciplines.
"Each event group will work on specific training techniques," Mandrell said. "We focus on individual development from the beginner to the more advanced. We try to mix in training sessions with other recreational activities to keep things fun."
The cost of the five-day, four-night camp is $295 for commuters and $395 for residents.
