Miami's Moments of the Decade Series Begins Tuesday

In just 10 days, the first decade of the 21st takes its final bow. The 10 years from 2000 through 2009 produced numerous memorable moments in Miami University athletics history, from games on grass to games on ice to games on wood.
Nearly 40 voters from RedHawk nation participated in a survey of Miami's top moments of the decade on www.MURedHawks.com and a total of 77 different events were included on their ballots. Their No. 1 choice received 10 points, their No. 2 choice nine points, etc.
The RedHawk moment that fans selected as their tenth-most favorite event of the last 10 years will be featured on Tuesday, then No. 9 on Wednesday, No. 8 on Thursday, etc. The series culminates on Thursday, Dec. 31st, when the moment fans voted as the top event of the decade will be unveiled.
Here are a few of the RedHawk events that got a bunch of votes but ultimately missed the cut:

No. 31 ... Oct. 13, 2007 ... (FB) Miami retires Ben Roethlisberger's jersey No. 7 in ceremony - 23 points
No. 26 ... Sept. 30, 2006 ... (SB) Miami opens new softball stadium - 28 points
No. 23 ... Oct. 18, 2009 ... (Gen.) Miami hosts Women's Athletics Bicentennial celebration (2 first place votes) - 31 points
No. 22 ... Oct. 6, 2006 ... (IH) Miami tops Denver, 5-2, in the first game at Steve Cady Arena - 34 points
No. 21 ... June 4, 2005 ... (BB) The Miami `nine' sets an NCAA single-game record for runs scored with a 35-8 victory over Quinnipiac - 35 points
No. 20 ... Oct. 27, 2007 ... (WCC) Laura Neufarth captures the MAC individual title - 37 points
No. 18 ... Aug. 13, 2001 ... Grand opening gala for Walter L. Gross Jr. Family Student-Athlete Development Center (1 first place vote) - 41 points \
No. 17 ... May 29, 2009 ... (Gen.) Miami wins second consecutive Jacoby Award for excellence in women's athletics - 50 points
No. 14 (tie) ... Oct. 31, 2007 ... (Gen.) Miami's student-athlete graduation rate hits record-high 85 percent - 52 points
No. 14 (tie) ... May 28, 2008 ... (Gen.) Miami wins Jacoby Award for women's athletics excellence for first time since 1997 - 52 points
No. 13 ... Nov. 1, 2009 ... (WCC) RedHawk harriers claim second straight MAC championship (2 first place votes) - 55 points
