It was an exciting weekend for Miami Athletics!
Congratulations to the women's cross country team on seizing its second-consecutive Mid-American Conference title! Head Coach Kelly Phillips was named 2009 MAC Coach of the Year, while Amanda Mirochna and Laura Neufarth were First-Team All-MAC selections and fourth others landed on the Second Team. (RECAP) Miami next runs at the Great Lakes Regional Championship on Saturday, Nov. 14 in Bloomington, Ind.
WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY MAC CHAMPIONSHIP PHOTO GALLERYA pair of second-half goals pushed the sixth-seeded women's soccer team into the semifinals of the Mid-American Conference Tournament with a 2-0 defeat of third-seeded Akron in the quarterfinals Sunday afternoon. (RECAP) The win sends the RedHawks (11-7-1) to the MAC Tournament semifinals where they will face the No. 2 seed Eastern Michigan Eagles on Friday. The remainder tournament will be hosted by No. 1 seed Central Michigan. Senior keeper Krista Pace recorded her third consecutive shutout with a pair of saves against the Zips, giving her eight on the season, which breaks Miami's single-season shutouts mark of seven. Earlier in the week, Miami tied a school record for largest margin of victory and goals scored in an 8-0 win over Ball State in the regular-season finale. (RECAP)

Miami's football team picked up a thrilling 31-24 win on Saturday at Yager Stadium over the Toledo Rockets, giving Head Coach Michael Haywood his first career win. Miami scored 21 first-half points, including 17 in the second quarter. The RedHawks (1-8; 1-4 MAC) staved off a late Rocket comeback. As Toledo was driving, down seven points with just over a minute remaining in the game, sophomore Anthony Kokal forced a fumble as Toledo's Danny Noble attempted to score to tie the game. The fumble bounced through the endzone, giving Miami the ball back on the 20-yardline on a touchback. Junior kicker Trevor Cook set a Miami record when he nailed a 55-yard field goal with 37 seconds remaining in the second quarter. His field goal broke the previous Miami record by one yard and ties for the fourth-longest field goal in the nation this season. (RECAP) Miami plays its final road game of the season on Thursday, Nov. 5 when the RedHawks travel to Temple for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff. The radio broadcast of the game begins at 6:30 p.m. on the Miami ISP Sports Network affiliate stations. The RedHawks then return home for their final two games, hosting Bowling Green on Thursday, Nov. 12 and Buffalo on Wednesday, Nov. 18.
FOOTBALL VS. TOLEDO PHOTO GALLERYThe No. 1 RedHawk hockey team (6-1-1; 3-1-0-0 CCHA) swept Northern Michigan in a road series over the weekend. Miami scored four goals in the second period, including two on the power play, then hung on for a 4-3 victory over Northern Michigan Friday night. Justin Vaive earned his first career multiple-goal game, scoring twice in the span of 41 seconds. (RECAP) The RedHawks scored a pair of power-play goals en route to a 2-1 victory over Northern Michigan Saturday night. Men's cross country also competed at the MAC Championships last weekend, finishing fourth. Junior Michael Perry led the way for the RedHawks in 12th place in 26:21.5 and garnered Second-Team All-MAC accolades. MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY MAC CHAMPIONSHIP PHOTO GALLERYField hockey (11-9; 8-3 MAC) earned a 2-1 win at Kent State on Saturday to place the RedHawks in a position to win a share of the MAC regular-season title with a win on Sunday. Katie Brightwell scored the game-winner off a penalty corner at 59:50. (RECAP) On Sunday, Miami was edged by Ohio, 1-0. (RECAP) Ohio and Kent State finished with 9-2 league records, just one win ahead of the RedHawks. Miami will be the No. 3 seed in the MAC Tournament, which will be hosted by Ball State. The RedHawks face No. 6 seed Missouri State at 1 p.m. on Thursday.
Volleyball (14-10; 9-3 MAC) picked up a pair of road wins over the weekend. On Friday, the RedHawks cruised to a three-set win (25-17, 25-22, 25-16) win at Akron. Senior outside hitter Hallie Hanks finished the match with 16 kills, which was a season high and only one off of her career high of 17. (RECAP) Miami outlasted Buffalo on Saturday in a thrilling five-set win, iced by a 17-15 win in the fifth set. For the second time this season and in her career, senior setter Andrea Atteberry led the way with a triple-double. She recorded career-high tying 10 kills, to go along with 52 assists and 12 digs. (RECAP) Miami returns home for a four-match home stretch to round out MAC regular-season play, hosting Bowling Green at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 5 and Western Michigan at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7.
Congratulations to Chris Gunnels, who was tabbed the MAC Swimmer of the Week last week. (RELEASE) The RedHawk men's swimming and diving team (2-2) lost at Purdue on Friday. (RECAP) Miami has the weekend off before hosting Ohio State at 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 13 and Kenyon at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 14.
Women's swimming and diving (3-2; 2-0 MAC) got off to a strong MAC start over the weekend. Miami downed Buffalo on Friday evening, 171-129. (RECAP) On Saturday, the RedHawks topped Akron, 187-111, winning the meet's first six events. (RECAP) Miami hits the road for a pair of MAC meets this weekend when travel to Toledo on Friday and Bowling Green on Saturday.
WOMEN'S SWIMMING & DIVING VERSUS BUFFALO PHOTO GALLERYSenior guard Kenny Hayes and junior guard Rodney Haddix II exploded for 22 and 20 points, respectively, to lead the men's basketball team to an 82-65 exhibition win over California University of Pennsylvania on Sunday afternoon. (RECAP) Miami plays one more exhibition game, hosting Saginaw Valley State on Sunday, Nov. 8. The RedHawk men play the second game of an exhibition doubleheader, facing the Cardinals at approximately 3:30 p.m. The Miami women host Tiffin at 1 p.m.
MEN'S BASKETBALL VS. CALIFORNIA (Pa.) PHOTO GALLERYThe golf team concludes the fall portion of its schedule when it travels to Fort Myers, Fla. to participate in the Renaissance Invitational Nov. 1-2, while women's tennis will have individual competing at the Purdue Invitational Nov. 6-8.

Also last weekend, Miami Athletics welcomed back men's tennis alumni for their Bicentennial Reunion Weekend. They were recognized at halftime of Saturday's football game.
On Thursday, Nov. 5, the Red & White Club will host its November luncheon, which is also a basketball season ticket pickup event. Guest speakers will be head basketball coaches Charlie Coles and Maria Fantanarosa with Associate Head Men's Basketball Coach Jermaine Henderson serving as the guest emcee. Miami basketball seniors Kenny Hayes and Ashleigh Brown will be the featured student-athlete speakers. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. with the program beginning at noon. Cost for this luncheon is $10 for members of the Red & White Club and basketball season ticket holders, and $15 for non-members.
