Miami vs. Buffalo
Freshman wide receiver Lucas Swift earned his first start as a RedHawk Wednesday night. He had his first-career rush in the first quarter on a reverse for a gain of seven yards. He also had two catches for 21 yards.
Redshirt freshman linebacker Luke Kelly earned his first start as a RedHawk. He had five tackles in the game, including 0.5 tackles for loss.
Miami converted a fourth-and-3 in the first quarter to make them 11-for-21 on the year on fourth-down conversions. The RedHawks failed on a fourth down late in the game to finish 1-for-2 in the game and 11-for-22 on the year (50 percent).
Senior quarterback Daniel Raudabaugh saw his first action since Sept. 19 at Western Michigan, leading Miami on a drive that resulted in a field goal in the second quarter. He also threw a touchdown to junior wideout Jamal Rogers from 36 yards out in the fourth quarter. He finished 11-for-20 for 101 yards while rushing for 15 yards on three carries. He finished his career with 5,352 passing yards, which ranks fifth all-time at Miami. His 511 career completions is third all-time at Miami while his 916 career pass attempts is also third all-time at Miami.
Miami held Buffalo without a first down until the 8:20 mark of the second quarter, forcing two three-and-outs to open the game. On their first two drives, the Bulls totaled 16 yards on six plays. On their third and fourth drives, the Bulls scored touchdowns on each and racked up 148 yards on 13 plays.
Prior to the game, Miami's 11 seniors were honored. The 11-man class includes linebacker Caleb Bostic, running back Andre Bratton, defensive back Wendell Brunson, defensive lineman Martin Channels, long snapper Chase Collins, wide receiver Brayden Coombs, punter Chris DiCesare, defensive lineman Mark Paun, quarterback Daniel Raudabaugh, defensive back Jeff Thompson and wide receiver Dustin Woods.
Redshirt freshman running back Danny Green had a career-long 15-yard run in the third quarter. The run nearly doubled his yardage for the season as he entered the game with 19 yards rushing. He finished with a career-best 27 yards in the game on just two carries, giving him 46 yards rushing for the season.
Senior wideout Dustin Woods caught a 6-yard touchdown catch in the third quarter of his final game as a RedHawk. It marked the first time he's hauled in a touchdown reception since Sep. 8, 2007 at Minnesota on a 24-yard score in the second quarter. He finished the game with 51 yards on five catches, finishing his career with 1,730 receiving yards, which ranks sixth on Miami's career receiving yards list while his 120 career receptions is seventh on Miami's career receptions list.
Senior wide receiver Brayden Coombs set a school record with a career-best 14 receptions for a career-high 100 yards in his final game as a RedHawk. He broke Andy Schillinger's mark of 13 catches at Toledo in 1987.
Junior wide receiver Jamal Rogers set a career high with nine receptions for a career-best 86 yards.
Freshman defensive back Justin Bowers had a career-high nine tackles in the game Wednesday.
Miami converted 13-of-21 (61.9 percent) third-down conversions Wednesday, its best output of the year on third down. Miami's previous best mark on third down this year was 9-for-17 at Kent State Sept. 26.
Miami controlled the ball for 38:21 during the game to Buffalo's 21:39, including a 12:20 to 2:40 advantage in the first quarter. It was Miami's second-largest difference in time of possession this year. The RedHawks have had more time of possession than its opponent eight times now this year. Miami also racked up 27 first downs, six more than Buffalo, marking the eighth time this year the RedHawks have had 20 first downs or more and the eighth time they've had more first downs than their opponent.
With the victory, Buffalo earned its first win in Oxford in seven tries. Miami still leads the all-time series 10-2, but the Bulls have won each of the last two meetings. In each of the last five meetings between the teams, the schools have combined for at least 54 points, including the 59 combined points Wednesday.
