OXFORD, Ohio -- Miami University Athletics is teaming with Pepsi and Richard's Pizza for the 2009 Championship Reading Program, an educational initiative designed to promote the importance of literacy within the community.
This is the 14th year of the Championship Reading Program with one of the highest participant bases in program history. Nearly 10,000 elementary students from 20 schools throughout southwest Ohio are participating. These students are reading books and recording the number of pages they read each day. Top readers at each school will be recognized at the Championship Reading Program ceremony at halftime of Miami's men's basketball game vs. Bowling Green on Jan. 23. All participating schools will receive money from Pepsi for use toward educational expenses.
A Championship Reading Program book drive is scheduled for Nov. 18th at Yager Stadium. Miami University Athletics and the First Book Organization will be collecting books before and during the football game against Buffalo, with the goal of providing books to local schools in need of library materials.
Support your local school district by donating a book. The book you donate might be the book that influences a kid's future.
