This week, Miami University will be buzzing with homecoming weekend activities. This year's theme, "Live the Legend", helps continue to celebrate Miami University's Bicentennial. Several activities are planned for the week, including a parade, BBQ and pep rally on Friday evening. (COMPLETE LISTING OF ACTIVITIES)

Football hosts Northern Illinois at 1 p.m. on Saturday in conjunction with the homecoming weekend festivities. Purchase your tickets today by calling 1-866-MUHAWKS, 513-529-HAWK or clicking HERE. Get to the game early and enjoy Tailgate Town, located on the west lawn of Millett Hall. Tailgate Town opens at 11 a.m. and offers a free family-friendly tailgate atmosphere. Musical performances at Tailgate Town this weekend include the student groups the Misfitz and the Miami University Gospel Choir in addition to interactive games and food available for purchase.The radio broadcast of the game begins at noon on the Miami ISP Sports Network affiliate stations. Last weekend, the RedHawk football team (0-7; 0-3 MAC) lost at Ohio, 28-7. (RECAP) Senior cornerback Jeff Thompson made a career- and game-high 11 tackles for the Red and White, while redshirt sophomore linebacker Jerrell Wedge had nine stops, including two and a half tackles for loss, and nabbed his first-career interception against the Bobcats.

Also this weekend, six will be inducted into the Miami University Athletic Hall of Fame as part of the 41st class. Steve Cady (coach/administrator), Nicole Catalano (women's tennis), Candice Honroth (women's track and field), Richard "Red" Hopkins (football/baseball/men's basketball), Stephanie Otten (volleyball) and Theresa Shepherd (softball) comprise the 2009-10 Hall of Fame Class and will be inducted on Saturday, Oct. 24. A Hall of Fame brunch will be held at the Shriver Center Multi-Purpose Room on Miami University's campus at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24 and the inductees will be further recognized later that afternoon during the football game versus Northern Illinois. NO walk-up tickets will be available. Reservations for the brunch will be taken until 5 p.m. Oct. 20. Cost of the brunch is $18 per person and reservations can be made by contacting the Miami Athletics Ticket Office at 1-866-MUHAWKS or 513-529-HAWK. (RELEASE)

Congratulations to the RedHawk men's golf team, who won the Cincinnati Invitational last week. (RECAP) Miami was led by junior Nathan Sutherland, who captured individual medallist honors by a seven-stroke margin. Sutherland also was named MAC Golfer of the Week last week for his performance. (RELEASE) The team returns to action Monday and Tuesday this week at the Georgetown Intercollegiate. Miami won the Georgetown Intercollegiate last year, defeating William and Mary by five strokes to take the 2008 title.
Field hockey (9-8-0) hosted a pair of non-conference games last week. The RedHawks defeated California in overtime on Friday, 2-1. Senior Mary Hull scored the game-winning goal at 73:23 for the RedHawks. (RECAP) On Sunday, Miami was nipped by Michigan, 3-2. (RECAP) Miami travels to Missouri State for a noon contest on Sunday.
Women's soccer (8-6-1; 4-3-1 MAC) was edged at Akron on Friday, 1-0. (RECAP) But the RedHawks rebounded on Sunday, collecting a thrilling 1-0 double-overtime win at Ohio. Junior forward Sara Lund headed in the game-winning goal with less than three minutes remaining in the second overtime to send the Miami to a 1-0 victory over the Ohio. (RECAP) Miami returns home for the first time in two weeks as the RedHawks host Western Michigan at 3 p.m. Friday and Northern Illinois at 1 p.m. Sunday.

Volleyball (11-9; 6-3 MAC) picked up a pair of MAC wins last week, battling Central Michigan to a thrilling five-set win (RECAP) and downing Eastern Michigan in three sets. (RECAP) The RedHawks honored their 1997 and 1998 MAC Championships teams over the weekend and also had its "Think Pink" night on Friday to promote breast cancer awareness. Miami hits the road this weekend for matches at Toledo on Friday and Ball State on Saturday.
VOLLEYBALL VS. CENTRAL MICHIGAN GALLERY
Ice hockey (3-0-1) scored four unanswered goals to break a 2-2 tie and down New Hampshire 6-3 on Friday evening. (RECAP) On Saturday, the No. 1 RedHawks rallied from a 5-3 deficit to pull out a 5-5 tie on the road against UNH. (RECAP) Five different players scored goals for the RedHawks each night, including junior Carter Camper's two goals in Friday' night's win. Miami returns home this weekend, hosting Michigan State Friday and Saturday. Friday's game time is set for 7:05 p.m. and Saturday's game time is scheduled for 8:05 p.m.
The men's and women's cross country teams competed at the NCAA Pre-Nationals last Saturday. Racing against its toughest competition of the season to date, the RedHawk men's team ran to a 25th-place finish in the 8K Blue Race of the Pre-Nationals Invitational hosted by Indiana State University Saturday morning. Senior Kevin Silver was the RedHawks' top finisher, crossing the finish line in 95th place in a time of 25:06.5 out of 238 runners. (MEN'S RECAP) The women's team ran to a 20th-place finish at the 6K Pre-Nationals Invitational Blue Race. The 37-team field featured seven nationally ranked teams. Senior Amanda Mirochna paced Miami with a 73rd-place finish in 21:52.9. (WOMEN'S RECAP) Both teams have a week off before running the MAC Championships hosted by Ohio University on Oct. 31.

Last weekend, Miami Athletics welcomed back former female student-athletes from all sports for the Women's Bicentennial Reunion. Several hundred former female student-athletes returned to campus for the weekend event, which included a "Panel of Legends" and also brunch on Saturday morning.

Men's swimming and diving returns to action this week, hosting Xavier at 1 p.m. Saturday. Women's swimming and diving gets its season underway on Friday evening, hosting Purdue at 5 p.m. The RedHawk women then will split their squad, taking some to Louisville for a 2 p.m. meet on Saturday, while the rest remain in Oxford to host Xavier at 1 p.m.
Women's tennis is also back in action, with individuals competing at the ITA Midwest Regionals in Cincinnati Oct. 22-25.
