SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - In a shootout that saw Miami build a 4-2 lead in the beginning stages of the second half, the RedHawk field hockey team would hold on to a 5-4 win at Missouri State on Saturday afternoon to improve to 2-0 in the Mid-American Conference.
The RedHawks received goal-scoring from five different scorers with Kate Snyder opening the game's scoring in the eighth minute. After two MSU goals gave the hosts a one-goal edge, Miami would answer back with four goals by Teja Kammler, Katie and Christina Brightwell, and Maggie Marcum to give MU a two goal advantage with just under 33 minutes to play. Kammler assisted on Katie Brightwell's goal in the 18th minute.
Two goals by the Bears in the 48th and 58th minute would close the gap, but Miami and goalkeeper Megan Stengel would hold on for the 5-4 win. Stengel relieved freshman starter Abbey Huck who left the game in the 23rd minute. Stengel, who made six stops in the contest, earned her first win of the season.
