Vanderbilt at Miami Postgame Notes: Aug. 28, 2008 - Despite the loss, Miami still holds an impressive 79-36-6 record in season openers. They are also 86-27-4 in home openers. Head Coach Shane Montgomery falls to 1-3 in season openers.
- Miami got on the board first with a 37-yard field goal by senior Nate Parseghian. The drive started with the first recovered turnover of the season when junior safety Jordan Gafford forced a fumble that was recovered by senior linebacker Joey Hudson.
- This was the first season opener started by junior quarterback Daniel Raudabaugh. He finished the game 19-for-41 for 244 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions.
- The 27 points Miami gave up in first half was the most since they gave up 28 at Colorado on September 22, 2007.
- Raudabaugh threw for his 14th career touchdown and first of the season at the 6:58 mark in the second quarter.
- Sophomore running back Thomas Merriweather matched his career long with a 20-yard run in the first quarter.
- Merriweather set a new career high with 59 rushing yards. He suffered an injury early in the third quarter, but was able to return to action in the fourth. - Sophomore receiver Jamal Rogers continued his success against Vanderbilt with a career long rush of 21 yards. He recorded a 40-yard touchdown reception in the 2007 game. For the game he had two carries for 32 yards and two receptions for 13 yards.
- Senior tight end Jake O'Connell made three receptions for a career high 61 yards. That included a career long 30-yard reception. - Butkus Award candidate Joey Hudson recorded 14 tackles, which ties his second best performance. He also had 2.5 tackles for loss, which is one-half off his career best.
- Seeing their first varsity action for Miami tonight included offensive guard Brandon Brooks, offensive tackle Ken Staudinger, cornerback Cornelius Ward and tight end Rob Reiland.
- The 34 points given up were the most in a season opener since Miami also gave up 34 at Ohio State in 2005. The last time they gave up more points was 38 against Ball State in 1978. It was the third most points allowed in a home opener. The most points given up in a home opener was against Central Michigan in 2005 when the RedHawks surrendered 38.
- Vanderbilt's DJ Moore returned a punt 91 yards in the first quarter, the second-longest in Commodore history.
- Vanderbilt receiver Sean Walker recorded a career-long reception of 49 yards in the first quarter.
- Vanderbilt quarterback Chris Nickson had a career long rush of 59 yards in the second quarter. He finished with 166 yards on 20 carries, which is a new career high, and his second career 100-yard rushing game
