Marketing Interns at UC Funfest |
One of Miami's marketing interns on game day. |
The 2007-08 academic year showcased the first class of the Miami University Sports Marketing Academy Internship. The internship is a great experience for Miami students who are interested in joining the sports marketing industry upon graduation. Miami Sports Marketing teams up each year with the Richard T. Farmer School of Business and the Department of Kinesiology and Health to find students who are suited for this intense career-delving experience.
This internship extensively covers real-world marketing and gives students hands-on experience in sports marketing. Students are expected to know their assigned sport's history at Miami University, attend at least one practice per month and prepare and implement a comprehensive marketing plan by working and managing events and directing game day presentation. Additionally, they are also expected to engage the student body by promoting through the student loyalty program, Red Alert, and RedHawk Traditions, the Living and Learning Community on campus. Once their season is completed, they must prepare and deliver a final presentation of their internship and review of the season.
Through the Miami University Sports Marketing Academy Internship program, the Miami sports marketing staff hopes to instruct students to be better able to prepare a comprehensive marketing plan including: grassroots marketing, community relations, game day management, and game day presentation.
"It is our goal to create a quality internship experience so that when a student graduates and leave the university, they go forth as a quality candidate for varied positions available in the sports industry. Our success in garnering increased student body support is a direct derivative of the talent within the Sports Marketing Academy," said Anthony J. Azama, director of sports marketing.
With so many excellent candidates in 2008, a stringent interview and application process was needed to narrow down the pool of accepted students. Approximately 80 applicants submitted their resumes for the 18 internship opportunities.
Miami University Sports Marketing is proud to announce the following interns for the 2008-09 Sports Marketing Academy: Kyle Alexander, Ryan Chapman, Casey Cochran, Annie DaValle, Karl Davis, Tyler Durbin, Ambika Gautam, Robert Hendricks, Thomas Hoffman, Jayme Hoy, Matthew Kucek, Jenna Long, Kelly Parnell, Caroline Phillips, Andrea Putnam, Maxx Rodriguez, Megan Stengel and Michael Stremel.
