Markwart Named Assistant Coach for RedHawk Field Hockey

OXFORD, Ohio - Lindsay Markwart has been named an assistant field hockey coach at Miami University, head coach Jill Reeve announced today.
A two-time team captain at Kent State, Markwart has spent time with the field hockey programs at Pennsylvania, and Temple, as well as the United State Olympic Committee prior to her appointment in Oxford.
This past year, Markwart served as a graduate assistant for academic support for athletics at the University of Louisville where she worked one-on-one with student-athletes, assisting them with degree completion as well as supervising study halls and assisting at-risk students.
In the spring of 2007, Markwart assisted Penn and Temple, both Division-I field hockey programs in Philadelphia, with various initiatives. While focusing on designing practice plans for goalkeepers and defense, she also assisted in recruiting efforts and video analysis for the Quakers and Owls.
While assisting Penn and Temple, Markwart also served as an intern for academic services for student-athletes at Saint Joseph's University where she monitored study halls, worked with the Atlantic-10 Conference and coordinated grade reports for the Hawks.
She has additionally spent time as a coach for the International Field Hockey Club of Kentucky and has spent seven years as a coach in the USA Field Hockey Futures Program.
During the spring of 2006, Markwart was an intern in the business development department for USA Field Hockey at the United States Olympic Committee in Colorado Springs, Colo. At the USOC, she served as the primary contact for events and helped generate revenue of more than $14,000 through silent auctions and grants.
A native of Miller Place, N.Y, Markwart was a three-year letterwinner in goal at Kent State where she was named to the All-MAC Tournament Teams in 2004 and 2005. She was also named MAC Defensive Player of the Week seven times in her career while also taking on leadership roles as a student-athlete.
Markwart was the president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee for two years after serving as the organizations secretary for one year. She participated in the NCAA Leadership Conference in Orlando, Fla. in 2006 and also served as the vice president of the MAC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee in 2005-06.
After graduating from Kent State with a degree in business administration, Markwart has completed work toward a master's degree in higher education at the University of Louisville.
