OXFORD, Ohio - Carrying over from last semester, Miami University's student-athletes once again posted strong marks in the classroom this spring to round out the 2007-08 academic calendar. More than half of Miami's 501 student-athletes recorded 3.0+ grade-point averages. Within that number, nearly 20 percent made the Dean's List (GPA of 3.5 - 3.99), while 18 student-athletes made the President's List (perfect GPA of 4.00), a number up from the fall semester.
Volleyball edged out women's cross country as team GPA leader, posting a 3.36, and cross country retained the top GPA for men, posting a 3.27. Altogether, 13 of Miami's 18 athletic teams recorded GPAs above 3.0 and two other squads exceeded 2.9.
For the entire academic year, Miami's 500+ student-athletes attained an impressive cumulative GPA of 3.0.
"Our student-athletes continue to demonstrate intellectual excellence within a wide variety of majors at one of the most rigorous and prestigious universities in the nation," said Brad Bates, Miami's director of athletics. "The fact that our women won the Mid-American Conference's Jacoby Award for overall athletic excellence and that our men placed in the top five makes their classroom performance doubly impressive."
