RedHawks Shut Down Colonels, 7-0

RICHMOND, Ky.--For the third time in four matches, Miami University's women's tennis team pounded out a 7-0 win, topping Eastern Kentucky University on Saturday afternoon. The RedHawks won their fifth straight match, moving to 5-1 on the season, while EKU dropped to 3-3.
Miami swept through doubles to capture the doubles point. Sophomore Brintney Larson and freshman Cara Wald inched out a 9-7 win at No. 1 doubles. Freshmen Anastasia Dracheva and Megan Martzolf notched an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles, while senior Leda Pesatova and freshman Sydnee Bridger captured an 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles.
Dracheva won 6-3, 6-3 in the first flight, while Larson recorded a 6-4, 6-1 win in the second flight. Martzolf recorded dominant 6-2, 6-0 wins at No. 3 singles. Pesatova pulled out a 7-5 win in the first set and pounded out a 6-1 win in the second set to win at No. 4 singles. Senior Kelly Douple outlasted EKU's Vera Heimeroth 6-2, 1-6, 1-0 (10-3) at No. 5 singles, while Wald notched a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles.
Miami returns home to host Xavier at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 17 at Riverside Racquet Club in Hamilton, Ohio.
