OXFORD, Ohio -- Miami's Andre Bratton posted his first career 100-yard rushing game, but Ohio's Chris Garrett answered by topping the century mark as well, leading the Bobcats to a 41-26 victory over the RedHawks Friday at Yager Stadium.
Bratton finished with 100 yards on 17 carries, while Garrett totalled 222 yards and two touchdowns on 23 attempts.
Ohio (4-8, 3-5) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first quarter on a 19-yard field goal by Barrett Way, but Miami's Nathan Parseghian answered from 35 yards out to even the score at 3-3 with 7:40 left in the second quarter.
The Bobcats answered right back, though, marching 64 yards on just four plays for a 10-3 lead. Garrett covered the final 22 on a sweep around left end with 5:45 remaining in the half. Parseghian cut the difference to 10-6 when he booted the second of his season-high four field goals, this a 39-yarder.
Both teams put together quick scoring drives minute of the half. Boo Jackson threw a three-yard pass to Terrance McCrae to put Ohio up 17-6 with 55 seconds left, but Parseghian hit a 34-yard field goal to make score 17-9 as the half ended.
Miami (2-10, 1-7) forced Ohio to punt on the opening possession of the second half and Matt Schulte's rugby-style kick went directly into Michael Mann for the block. Chris Givens picked the ball up and raced 60 yards to paydirt to trim the lead to one, 17-16. It was the first return for a touchdown by Miami since Dustin Cohen's three-yarder against Virginia Tech in 1997.
It took just two plays for Ohio to stretch the lead as Jackson hit a wide-open Taylor Price for a 51-yard strike. After each team hit field goals that made the score 27-19, Jackson struck again with a short touchdown pass. He found Jayson White on third-and goal from the two, putting the Bobcats back ahead by two scores, 34-19.
Ohio sealed the game with a fourth-and-four stop at the 10 with four minutes to play. Garrett padded his stats three plays later when he burst through the left side for a 79-yard touchdown run to make the score 41-19.
Miami capped the offensive output with a 15-yard pass from Daniel Raudabaugh to Givens with just 26 seconds remaining.
Raudabaugh completed 26 of 41 passes for 258 yards and a touchdown, but also threw a pair of interceptions. Givens hauled in five of those throws for 72 yards and a score, while tight end Jake O'Connell aldo had five catches.
Ohio finished the contest with 516 yards of total offense, averaging 8.7 yards per play.
