Several RedHawks Compete in Finals at Queen City Invitational

CINCINNATI--Miami University's women's tennis team competed in its second fall tournament last weekend, playing in the Queen City Invitational hosted by the University of Cincinnati. Three RedHawks advanced to the finals of the main draw of their respective singles brackets with several others advancing far into their brackets.
Cara Wald picked up a 6-2, 6-3 win against Kennesaw State's Vera Shkundira in Singles A Main Draw and defeated Cincinnati's Ksenia Slynko 6-3, 6-0 and West Virginia's Ashley Pilsbury, 6-2, 6-2 to advance to the finals against Eastern Kentucky's Svetlana Pimanova. Pimenova edged Wald 6-0, 6-1 in the finals.
Also in Singles A, Reikie Honiball advanced to the consolation finals with a 6-1, 6-2 win against Dayton's Laina Grote and a 6-3, 6-0 win against Kennesaw State's Mackenzie Swindall.
Two RedHawks advanced to the finals of Singles D Main Draw. Laura Grace Mezher pounded out a 6-0, 6-0 win against Xavier's Manetta Maffey in the opening round and advanced to the finals with a 6-3, 6-3 win against West Virginia's Milica Pantovic. Jessica Parr picked up a 6-2, 6-1 win against Xavier's Aylin Seyalioglu and seized a 6-1, 6-2 win against Cincinnati's Abby Mayo. Behind a 6-4, 6-1 win against Kennesaw State's Lindsay Dillon, Parr advanced to finals against her teammate.
Sydnee Bridger won the Singles B-Consolation B bracket, pulling out a 7-6, 6-4 win in the finals against Xavier's Kaitlyn Zinn.
In the Singles C, both Jackie Kolman and Lauren Hofmann advanced in the Consolation A bracket with Kolman advancing to the finals against Xavier's Jill Ducro.
In Doubles A Main Draw, Honiball and Wald advanced to the semifinals with 8-0, 8-4 wins in their first two matches. The duos of Kolman/Parr and Hofmann/Mezher both advanced to the consolation finals of Doubles B.
Miami will be splitting its squad this weekend with half the team traveling to Midland, Texas, for the Midland Invitational and the other half traveling to Kalamazoo, Mich., for the MAC Fall Invite. Both events run Oct. 10-12.
