BOWLING GREEN, Ohio--Freshman running back J.R. Taylor's first career touchdown was a big one as his five-yard touchdown carry, capped by a senior placekicker Nathan Parseghian extra point, lifted Miami University's football team to a 27-20 lead over the Bowling Green Falcons with 2:35 remaining in the game. Miami held the Falcons scoreless over the waning minutes as the RedHawks captured their first Mid-American Conference win to move to 2-5 on the season and 1-2 in the MAC.

Defensively, senior safety Robbie Wilson came up with a huge interception at the Miami 2-yard line and returned it to the RedHawk 25, setting up the game-winning score. Senior defensive end Joe Coniglio recorded three tackles for a combined loss of 21 yards, including two sacks for a loss of 20 yards. Senior linebacker Joey Hudson led all players with nine tackles, including six solo stops.

Taylor amassed 127 yards on 18 carries, an average of 7.1 yards per carry, and scored the game-winning touchdown for the RedHawks. Redshirt freshman quarterback Clay Belton, who made his first career start, threw for 129 yards, completing 11-of-23 attempts. Sophomore wide receiver Chris Givens paced the RedHawks with 71 receiving yards on three catches.

Bowling Green (3-4; 1-2 MAC) got on the board first as Sinisa Vrvilo nailed a 31-yard field goal with 12:02 remaining in the first quarter. At the 8:28 mark in the first quarter, senior running back Andre Bratton collected Miami's first touchdown in the first quarter this season, rushing six yards for the score. Parseghian's extra point put the RedHawks on top, 7-3.

Miami extended its lead in with 7:34 remaining in the second quarter as a 53-yard scoring strike from Belton to Givens. With the Parseghian extra point, Miami took a 14-3 lead.

Late in the second quarter, Bowling Green was able shrink the gap as Corey Partridge scored on a 29-yard touchdown pass from Tyler Sheehan with 1:51 remaining in the second quarter. Vrvilo's extra point put the Falcons within four points heading into the half, 14-10.

Bowling Green recaptured the lead midway through the third quarter when Sheehan hit Jimmy Sheidler on a four-yard touchdown pass with 9:25 remaining in the third stanza to make the score 17-14. The Falcons extended their lead five minutes later when Vrvilo nailed a 34-yard field goal with 4:37 left in the third quarter to give BGSU a 20-14 lead.

But Miami was not done.

With 2:52 remaining in the third quarter, Parseghian drilled a 37-yard field goal to put the RedHawks within three points, 20-17. Parseghian then knotted the game, 20-20, at the 11:51 mark of the fourth quarter off a 36-yard field goal.

Miami started its game-winning drive at its own 25-yard line off the Wilson interception return, and marched 75 yards in 10 plays over 4:45, capped by the Taylor touchdown and Parseghian extra point for the 27-20 win.

After a two-game road stretch, Miami returns to Yager Stadium for Homecoming Weekend, hosting Kent State at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25.
