Miami Soccer Team Edged by Columbia, 2-0

NEW YORK - The Miami University women's soccer team was defeated, 2-0, by Columbia University Friday night at the Columbia Soccer Stadium. The Redhawks are now 1-1-1, while the Lions improved to 1-2-0.
CU scored its first lamplighter of the evening in the 53rd minute as Lindsey Knowles tallied off an assist from Sophie Reiser.
Chrissy Butler added an unassisted goal in the match's 84th minute to sustain a two-goal victory for the home team.
The Lions and Redhawks each mustered six shots in the opening frame, but CU posted a 6-4 edge in the second frame.
MU had three corner kicks, compared to seven for Columbia.
Individually, freshman Sara Lund (Malmo, Sweden/Malmo Borgarskola) provided a team-best four shots, including three on goal for the Redhawks.
The Lions were paced by Reiser, who led all players with five shots on the night.
Sophomore Krista Pace (Toronto, Ontario/Birchmont Park) made three saves in net for Miami, while Allison Vespa turned away six shots for Columbia.
MU concludes its trip to New York City with a match against St. John's University at 12 p.m. on Sunday (Sept. 9).
