OXFORD, Ohio -- Miami head football coach Shane Montgomery said today that a number of first-year freshmen are making a strong bid for regular playing time in 2007. Among the 10 rookies who have sparkled during the early pre-season drills are three Ohio stars: quarterback Clay Belton (Dayton), tight end Kendrick Bruton (Miamisburg) and wide receiver Chris Givens (Chillicothe). The list includes:

"Our freshmen continue to improve on a daily basis, " said Montgomery. "We're going to take a long, hard look at them throughout the balance of the pre-season drills. There's a very good chance that several of them could make a major contribution this coming season."
PRE-GAME FESTIVITIES: When the Miami RedHawks open their 2007 home football schedule on September 15 against Cincinnati, there will be lots of action both inside and outside Yager Stadium. Added to the exciting schedule of events will be a pre-game festival called "Tailgate Town." Among the entertainment elements of Tailgate Town will be the new-and-improved Family FunFest, interactive games, delicious food, and live music. Fans will also have the opportunity to meet members of Miami's dance team and its cheerleaders, and be entertained by the 270-member Miami University Marching Band.
