INDIANAPOLIS - Joining 325 student-athletes nationwide, Miami University junior Andrea Tepe (Cincinnati, Ohio/Milford) has been selected to represent the RedHawks at the 2007 NCAA National Leadership Conference, which will be held May 27-31 in Orlando, Fla. Tepe, who is a three-year letterwinner on the women's track and field team, was chosen from a pool of four Miami nominees that included Alexis Javier (softball), Donovan Potter (football) and Pat Sovacool (men's cross country/track and field).
A Cincinnati native, Tepe is majoring in integrated mathematics education and holds a 3.34 GPA. During the indoor track season, she ran the lead leg on the 4x400 meter relay team that placed sixth at the conference meet, and in the outdoor season, she owns 12th-fastest 400-meter hurdle time in the MAC. Tepe also is an active member of the RedHawk Council, which is an on-campus leadership group comprised of Miami student-athletes.
The five-day leadership conference provides NCAA student-athletes with a forum to openly discuss issues on their campuses and in their communities, while also providing them with the opportunity to enhance their leadership, communication, decision-making and problem-solving skills. The leadership conference promotes better communication among student-athletes, coaches, administrators, faculty and communities.
In conjunction with the CHAMPS/Life Skills Program, the NCAA Leadership Conference is entering its 10th year. The mission of the conference is to provide a diverse group of the nation's top student-athletes with an opportunity to actively participate in challenging and thought-provoking activities that will enable them to become better leaders on their campuses and in their communities.
Each institution nominates four student-athletes who have demonstrated an ability or strong desire to be leaders and would benefit from a significant leadership experience. In order to be eligible, applicants must be in good academic standing and must have athletics eligibility remaining in the following academic year.
